WWE Smackdown house show
December 29, 2007
Baltimore, Md. at Baltimore Arena
Report by A. Madison, PWTorch correspondent
The arena is three-fourths full maybe more. They usually twarp the top levels off but, there were people up there this time. Anyway woooo's go around the arena before the show. The show begins with Smackdown GM Teddy Long. He announces that U.S Champ MVP will be in action. Big Daddy V and The Great Khali will team up to face The Brothers of Destruction. And finally we will have a Last Man Standing Match between Edge & Batista.
(1) Jimmy Wang Yang defeats Elijah Burke. The first match of the night was very entertaining. Wang Yang got an okay reception on his entrance. Once the match got going, the crowd was highly behind him. Burke got lots of heat with " you suck" chants all through the match. The match came to and end when Burke missed the Elijah Express. Wang Yang finished the match with a standing moonsault.
(2) Mark Henry defeated Tommy Dreamer. This match was fairly short. Dreamer got an okay reaction. Henry got awws when he came out. The kind of reaction that you get when you mean trouble. Tommy kicks his way through the match and the crowd got behind him as well. Henry was too strong though. He wins the match with a powerslam.
(3) Kelly Kelly & Michelle McCool defeat Victoria & Leyla. McCool was over with the fans in Baltimore. Kelly got a mediocre reaction while Victoria got a few pops. This match was longer than the last. Not a bad match. Kelly played victim while McCool did most of the wrestling. Leyla seems to be getting better. She showed lots of improvement. McCool would win after landing a chick kick to the face of Victoria.
(4) Festus (w/Jesse) defeats John Morrison (w/ Miz). The crowd was a little dead for this match. Festus is s great talent. He has the crowd behind him but, it wasn't all there tonight. Morrison was his usual self. He usually pleases me anyway. Miz jumped in on many occasions. Each time he was taken out by Festus. Festus pins Morrison with his version of a flapjack maneuver.
Josh Matthews announces the ECW Championship Match.
(5) C.M. Punk defeated Chavo Guerrero to retain the ECW Championship. Chavo was out first. Everybody was looking around thinking..." Chavo Guerrero?". Punk came out to a nice reaction. Best so far. Chavo used alot of mat tactics to keep Punk grounded, That match got a few boring chants on Chavo's part. Punk would come back after Chavo misses a Frog Splash. Punk hits the GTS for the win.
(Intermission)
(6) MVP defeated Chuck Palumbo to retain the U.S. Title. Before the match MVP did some mic work talking about The Baltimore Ravens. I was a little disappointed not seeing Rey. When MVP's music hit, people started running to the barricade. Now I don't know if it's me but, I think he's gonna be huge and soon. Chuck Palumbo comes out with Michelle McCool. He pretty much manhandles MVP. He came so close to a win that people were boing when the ref called it a kickout. Jamie Noble would come out to grab McCool. Enough to distract Palumbo so MVP could hit The Playmaker. MVP retains. (After the match, Palumbo was booed. He grabbed the mic and called Baltimore garbage. He asked fans who would give Michelle a ride home cause he wouldn't. Mc Cool would then walk away on Palumbo leaving him all alone.)
(7) Undertaker & Kane defeated Big Daddy V & The Great Khali. This is my time seeing Khali and I was amazed. He is freaking huge. Anyway Daddy V and Khali were out first. Khali got a good heel reaction. A lot were in awe. The lights then went out and the people went freaking ballistic. Baltimore is Taker Land. Every time he comes here he gets the biggest reaction. He and Kane came out together. This match was really good. Entertainment all the way through. Crowd was way into the match as Kane played victim. Fans started stomping and chanting "Taker Taker." When he finally got in he went to work on Daddy V and Khali. Taker and Kane were able to get rid of Daddy V and double chokeslam Khali for the 1...2...3!
(8) Edge defeated Batista to retain the World Hvt. Title. After a great tag team match, the fans were ready for another great match. Edge was out first to a great heel reaction. It was more like a respected heel reaction. He got some heel points for ripping some signs down the aisle way. Batista was out 2nd to a huge pop. Edge wouldn't go into the ring for about 10 minutes. He got the fans hot and they loved when Batista finally got his hands on him. This was a great back and forth match. It spilled to the crowd and a lady screamed at the top of her lungs until they went back over the barricade. Edge used the microphone, a steel chair and steel stairs to try and keep Batista down for the 3 count. He even used his Spear. Batista would not stay down. Batista would get up and gain the advantage. The Majors run out and they attack Batista. He fights them off and Batista Bombs Edge. Before the ref could count, the Rated R wannabes are back up. They double DDT Batista. Both men are out and at the count, they pull Batista back down while the ref isn’t looking. Edge retains!
(After the main event, Edge and his posse and fleeing the ring. Takers music hits and he corners then. Batista on one end and Taker on the other. They attack The Major's while Edge is able to dodge them. The show ends with Taker and Batista staring each other down. Great Show. Can't wait for Backlash)
Biggest Pop:
1. Undertaker
2. Batista
3. C.M. Punk
