WWE house show report
February 13, 2008
Honolulu, Hawaii
Report by Reid Shimizu, PWTorch reader
After close to a year and a half abscence, the WWE made a triumphant return to the 50th State to close out what must have been a killer of a road trip to Alaska, South Korea and Japan.
That being said just about everyone on the card looked a bit tired, but to their credit put on a good show.
Blaisdell Arena holds around 8,000 for wrestling events, and tonight it was packed with around 6,000 plus, more than some recent MMA events held in the same building.
(1) RIC FLAIR DEFETAED MR. KENNEDY VIA SUBMISSION
Fans popped huge for the Nature Boy in what was in all likelihood his final match in Honolulu. Kennedy controlled most of the match before Flair caught him with a few chop blocks and finished Kennedy with the Figure Four.
(2) CHARLIE HAAS PINNED D.H. SMITH
Following a loud response for Flair, the crickets came out for this one. Most fans had no idea who D.H. Smith was, and Haas barely got any response. A slow paced match that made a long match seem even longer. Haas did pull out his Lucha Libre mask routine which earned a few laughs and picked up the win with a bridging German Suplex.
(3) SNITSKI PINNED BRIAN KENDRICK
Short match that was made somewhat entertaining thanks to Kendrick bouncing around like a rag doll and finally getting pinned following a pumphandle slam.
Murdoch came out in this long shiny ring robe that well, didn't look all that good on him. Decent tag match with Rhodes playing face in peril before Holly pinned Murdoch following an Alabama Slam.
(5) RANDY ORTON PINNED CHRIS JERICHO
I was very surprised to see the WWE title match so early but a solid effort turned in by both men with Orton getting the pin with the RKO following a missed Enzuguri by Jericho. Before, during and after the match Orton and Jericho kept refering to a sign in the crowd that on one side read 'Orton's Only Fan' and 'Orton Up You A**' on the other. Why a fan would have both things on one sign is beyond me but the crowd seemed to enjoy it. Y2J was very over with the Hawaii fans and he looked to be having a great time interacting with them.
Candice Michelle came out following intermission and tossed t-shirts into the crowd. She said what better place than Hawaii to get 'laid' which earned a nice pop. Speaking of pop, a group of kids sitting front row are still putting their eye balls back in after Candice did her pose right in front of them.
(6) DX DEFEATED UMAGA & WILLIAM REGAL
DX was over HUGE with the crowd and soaked up their entire ring intro. Umaga earned a mild polite rseponse, due to Hawaii having a large Polynesian population, however there was no such love for Mr. Regal.
Decent action with no real high spots in which both Triple H and Michaels traded turns as the face in peril before HHH pinned Regal following a Sweet Chin/Pedigree combo.
(7) BETH PHOENIX PINNED MICKIE JAMES
Val Venis was the special guest referee but played virtually no role in the match. Mickie James by the way looks awesome in person and Beth is no slouch herself. Good match with Phoenix earning the pin via Fisherman Buster Suplex.
(8) JEFF HARDY PINNED CARLITO
Jeff Hardy was insanely over, in fact it seemed as if the fans were anxiously awaiting his arival all night. Hardy looked to be a bit hurt coming in, as he seemed to wince during the match, but injured or not he and Carlito put together an excellent, fast paced 20 minute main event match with Hardy picking up the win after a Swanton Bomb. In the stupid fan move of the night, after Carlito tossed his apple into crowd, a fan tossed it back, narrowly missing the wrestlers which resulted in an ejection. After the match Hardy brought a small child dressed like him into the ring and they both did Hardy's fist pumping dance to the delight of the crowd.
NOTES: A pretty long show that timed out at around three hours and people I spoke with after the matches agreed it was a fun night of action.
QUICK TIPS FOR SENDING RESULTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the "&" symbol as opposed to stating "and. " Reserve use of " and" when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. " Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match" ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
