TNA house show report
May 17, 2008
Poughkeepsie N.Y. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center
Report by Chris Palmatier, PWTorch.com reader
(1) TNA World Tag Team Champions LAX defeated Team 3D when Homicide pinned Brother Devon following a frog splash. 3D are really out of shape. They said that Mid Hudson Civic Center is one of the few area that they worked for all three promotions. Great opening match. It was about 20 minutes. 3D got the crowd really ready for the show.
(2) Alex Shelley pinned Consequences Creed in a match that was billed as an X Division contenders match. This was an great match. Lots of action. .
(3) Awesome Kong & Jacqueline defeated Traci Brooks & ODB when Kong pinned ODB after the sitout Awesome Bomb. For some reason the crowd made it seem like Awesome Kong was a face. Kong is got to be one of the best woman I've seen in the past ten years. The woman's division is so much better than WWE. The ODB gimmick is so bad when it come to kid fans.
(4) Matt Mogan defeated Johnny Devine after the F5. This match was about two minutes. They billed Matt as 7 feet tall. I am 6'7 and Matt is not 7'0. This was the worst match of the night. Matt really cannot work. I see why WWE got rid of him.
(5) Rhino pinned Cowboy James Storm after a gore. Rhino did not bring up his ECW background to the crowd. Rhino looked small. James Storm was very good getting out of the at the end. They brawled a little on the floor, too.
INTERMISSION
Kurt Angle came out after intermission and said he came to TNA to do to things: (1) be the best wrestler in the world and (2) kick WWE's ass. He said he was happy to come to Poughkeepsie, apologized for being injured, and said the next time he was in Poughkeepsie, he would be challenging for the TNA World Title. He was unreal when I saw how small he was. My friend and I could not come up with a wrestler better than Kurt.
Jeremy Borash did his in-ring TNA Today segment for the website. I must say, Borash is a very good emcee at live events. He really gets the audience going. They taped a Spike TV segment to be put on TNA.com.
(6) "Showtime" Eric Young (as Super Eric) pinned Rellik after a flying elbow. I was getting an soda during this match so I have nothing to write.
(7) TNA World Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe pinned Tomko after a muscle buster. Pretty good reception for both men. Joe got his topé in, as well as the facewash and the kicks and kneedrop. Joe is a legitimately talented guy and I've always found Tomko to be terribly underrated as a talent. The WWE could of use Tomko in a better way.
Now the best part of the show. Kurt got in the TNA ring and signed autographs for $20. Great move to give back to the fans that did show up. Some more TNA talent came out also. Tomko, Eric Youg, Rhino. James Storm, Matt Morgan, all the TNA knockouts, Kong was out of chartcher, LAX, The wrestlers really looked like they were happy to be greeting the fans. Kurt and other TNA wrestlers were very nice and answer questions when asked. This was great because the next time they come to Poughkeepsie the fans will remember this and will come so the crowd will be bigger. Great event.
Notes: Overall this was a very good show. I would say there were about 500 fans in a 2,000 seat area where the WWE sells out in 10 minutes. This was better than some shows that the WWE gives fans. I wish that TNA had more wrestlers there that the crowd knew. Kip James, Road Dog, Booker, and Christian the crowd would knew more. I hope TNA will come back soon.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
