ROH live event report
August 1, 2008
Manassas, Va.
Report by: John Massey, Torch reader
Ring of Honor made their return to the Sports Network and Fitness Inc. building in Manassas, Virginia, on Friday night, August 1, 2008! They will return again on Friday, January 16, 2009.
(1) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeated Adam Pearce & Shane Hagadorn in 9 minutes via pinfall.
(2) Pelle Primeau defeated Rex Sterling in 5 minutes via pinfall.
(3) Delirious defeated Rhett Titus in 10 minutes via submission.
(4) Roderick Strong defeated Necro Butcher in 12 minutes via pinfall in a re-match from “Injustice.”
(5) Dream tag match: Bryan Danielson & Austin Aries wrestled Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin initially to draw after an initial 20 minutes and a five minute overtime period.
(6) Brent Albright defeated Chris Hero via pinfall in 15 minutes.
(7) ROH champion Nigel McGuinness defeated Ruckus via submission in 13 minutes to retain the ROH World Title.
(8) ROH tag team champions Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black defeated Naomichi Marufuji & Go Shiozaki in 24 minutes via pinfall when Black pinned Shiozaki.
Show Notes: The show began promptly at 8:00 pm and ended right at 11:00 pm. There was a brief twenty minute intermission between the Dream Tag Team Match and the Albright-Hero contest. The crowd was packed into the building and the heat was intense, reminding me of some of the hot summer ECW Arena shows back in the late 1990’s. The crowd was hot and into the action all night and it seemed like there was a large fan contingency from the Northeast at the show, which gave it that ROH feel.
After the Dream Tag Team Match, Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black hit the ring to attack the four men but were chased off. Austin Aries took the mic and wanted to put aside past problems with Alex Shelley and shake hands. Shelley declined and left the ring. At the end of the show, Alex Shelley ran out to attack Jacobs and Black. When the two began to beat him down, Aries made the save. Shelley then grabbed the mic and stated that he needed sometime to think about what Aries said earlier and he decided to shake his hand. This was the end of the show. Very good show.
