8/24 TNA in Wichita, Ks.: Samoa Joe vs. A.J. Styles, Morgan vs. Kip, Knockouts Title Match, Lethal vs. Dutt Aug 25, 2008 - 10:11:31 AM
TNA house show
August 24, 2008
Wichita, Ks.
Report by Mike Id, PWTorch.com reader
Pretty good show, I would guess 800 in attendance (seats 1,000) and was a pretty hot crowd. JB did his usual house spiel about loudest getting backstage passes, that they would be filming for Spike TV, and that next time they come would be for a PPV. Although he said that last year and it wasn’t a PPV this year.
(1) Jay Lethal defeated Sonjay Dutt. Not a great opener, pretty slow for the first five minutes then their typical final three minutes. Lethal scored the win with the big macho elbow drop.
(2) Matt Morgan defeated Kip James. Slow, match with mostly punches and kicks. Morgan got his leg drop on the apron in and won with a big boot. Crowd was hot for Morgan.
(3) Eric Young & Abyss defeated Rock & Rave Infection. This started as a singles match between Young and Rave but turned into a tag match after Lance Rock's continuous interference. Young was over with the crowd and had Abyss come out for his partner, who got the win via black hole slam.
(4) Rhino defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir. Decent match, typical Rhino match and win via the gore. Sheik Abdul got a good deal of heat. Post match was fun, Sheik brings the T95 ring girls in the ring to berate them, the referee stops him from attacking them and goes postal ripping off his shirt and knocking the Sheik out of the ring.
Intermission, no autographs and there was very little at the merchandise counter. They filmed for TNA today and brought some kids into the ring.
(5) Taylor Wild defeated Awesome Kong to retain the TNA Knockouts Title. Really short match with a rollup win out nowhere. Kong dominated most of the contest.
(6) Beer Money Inc defeated LAX to retain the TNA Tag Team Titles. Storm drew a ton of heat with his pre-match comments bagging on Wichita for its ugly women and retarded men. Ice and plastic bottles were thrown, one hit Roode pretty hard. Good match with Beer Money getting the win.
(7) Samoa Joe beat A.J. Styles to retain the TNA World Hvt. Title. Good match with both getting face responses. Many duelling chants during the very up tempo match, really what you would expect from these two. Joe got the victory with the muscle buster.
NOTES: After the show, Joe and A.J. posted for pictures with fans for $20, and many stars came out and also give autographs.
BIGGEST POPS:
Samoa Joe
A.J. Styles
Matt Morgan
MOST HEEL HEAT:
Beer Money Inc
Sheik Adul Bashir
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
