ROH PPV Taping Report
September 19, 2008
Boston, Mass.
Report by Sean Radican, Torch columnist
- Sean Radican texted in results from last night's PPV taping in Boston, which featured the long-awaited tag team title victory for Kevin Steen & El Generico to set off a party in Beantown.
(a) Chasyn Rance beat Manny Ringwood with a piledriver. Ringwood's lumberjack gimmick reportedly quite over with the audience.
- PPV then opened with an Austin Aries promo. Jimmy Jacobs interrupted, then Delirious jumped Aries from behind.
(1) Austin Aries beat Delirious in the PPV opener. Said to be a "great opener." Age of the Fall then jumped Aries after the match. Jacobs put Aries through a table with a sentaun off the top rope to the outside. Tyler Black was upset with Jacobs because they have to defend the tag titles in the main event.
(2) Sara Del Ray beat a jobber after Sweet 'n Sour Inc. came out for a Sweeney promo.
(3) Erick Stevens & NWA champion Brent Albright beat Adam Pearce & Eddie Edwards. Radican says it was a real good middle-to-end. Albright hit a half-nelson suplex on Pearce for the win.
(4) Chris Hero beat Jerry Lynn via knockout. Hero nailed an elbow smash with a loaded pad for the win. Lynn said to be awesome. (***1/4)
(5) Bryan Danielson beat Go Shiozaki and Claudio Castagnoli in an elimination match. Claudio was DQ'ed for suplexing a referee, then he went nuts and hit the Ricola Bomb on Danielson. Claudio then laid out officials and students before finally leaving. Shiozaki then dominated a hurt Danielson before some great back and forth. Danielson then slapped on the triangle choke and Shiozaki passed out. (***3/4)
(6) Jay & Mark Briscoe beat Necro Butcher, Kenny King & Jason Blade, and Jigsaw & Ruckus in a four-team Scramble match. Awesome spotfest. (***1/2)
[Intermission]
(7) Daizee Haze beat Madison Eagles with the mind trip in a short post-intermission match.
(8) Rhett Titus beat Josh Daniels in a bonus match. (*)
(9) Kevin Steen & El Generico beat Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black to capture the ROH Tag Titles. Radican calls it a Match of the Year candidate. Said crowd was on its feet the entire time exploded when Generico pinned Jacobs following a brainbuster/package piledriver combo. Wild post-match celebration with crowd going insane. Steen and Generico went into the crowd to celebrate with the belts. (****3/4)
(10) Nigel McGuinness beat Roderick Strong to retain the ROH Title. Said to be an incredible match with Nigel retaining. Nigel then talked afterward about no one being able to beat him. He then accepted Danielson's challenge for a future PPV title match. (****1/4)
