TNA "Maximum Impact" U.K. tour house show report
January 29, 2010
Manchester, U.K.
Report by Daniel Dalgetty, Torch reader

The Manchester Evening News arena seemed quite full, but they weren't using all of the bleacher seating. The higher tier was curtained off. As on other nights, Jeremy Borash warmed up the crowd first (there was obviously a slight screw-up backstage as JB came out to Earl Hebner's entrance video).

(1) Amazing Red beat Suicide and Chris Sabin in a pretty decent X Division match.

(2) TNA Global champion Rob Terry beat Eric Young to retain the Global Title. Rob Terry was extremely over, but small groups of people chanted, "You can't wrestle."

(3) The Pope beat Rhino in a mediocre match.

(4) TNA World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles beat Samoa Joe, Daniels, and Hernandez in a four-way match to retain the TNA Title. It was an odd decision to have the match so early. A.J. cut a heel promo saying he wouldn't participate in a ladder match, so this turned into a standard four-way match, with tags being necessary. Very good match, but it's a shame it wasn't given more time. Joe was the most over.

Intermission followed with TNA president Dixie Carter doing the whole "thanking the fans" bit, accompanied by her Twitter friend Jane. (Jane came with myself and my good friend Davey. A little insider knowledge for you - she was very, very drunk!) Dixie also had a small boy with her who seemed absolutely terrified.

(5) Kurt Angle beat Desmond Wolfe in a very solid match. Angle was extremely over, but there were Wolfe chants also. Great promo from Wolfe before the match, but being a big fan, my opinion may be a tad biased. Again, I would have liked more time, but I could watch these guys wrestle all night.

(6) Sarita & Taylor Wilde beat the Beautiful People (Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky) with Hamada as special referee. Knockouts were in action next. Good crowd reaction with lots of lustful chanting from the male fans. Decent enough Knockout match, but I'd have much rather have seen Kong.

(7) Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) beat Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode) and British Invasion (X Division champion Doug Williams & Brutus Magnus) in a three-way tables match. Team 3D turned the main event in to a tables match. 3D was pretty over, but Beer Money were the crowd favorites. Team 3D got the win with a 3D through the table on Magnus, followed by the pin.

All in all, a pretty decent show. It was nice to see the backbones of TNA putting on a solid show with not an elderly broken down "legend" in sight.
