2/6 WWE in Waco, Tex.: Rey Mysterio vs. C.M. Punk, McIntyre vs. Morrison vs. R-Truth, Christian vs. Zeke
Feb 7, 2010 - 1:30:03 AM
WWE Smackdown/ECW house show report
February 6, 2010
Waco, Texas
Report by Jordan Johnson, Torch reader
The arena was about 70 percent full and the crowd was into most of the show. The speakers weren't the best, which made it hard to clearly hear the beginning of entrance songs, causing diminishing pops.
(1) Kane beat Mike Knox. Knox came out first, so I knew the other participant would be the winner. The crowd really liked Kane. Better than expected match with Kane coming out on top.
Promo: C.M. Punk and Luke Gallows. This was my first time seeing Punk live and he was great. He bashed Waco, which drew heat. Long story short, Mysterio saved a "fan" from a beat down by Punk and Gallows.
(2) Goldust & Kozlov beat William Regal & Tyler Reks. I'm a big Goldust fan and I appreciate Regal, but my God, with the other two people in the match, I thought it would be a good chance to grab the collector's WWE cup at the concession stand. The line was really long, so I missed this entire match. Goldust's team won.
(3) Women's champion Mickie James beat Michelle McCool with Beth Phoenix as special referee. Mickie was in control, then Beth turned on her. The crowd hated this. Beth was counting the three count on Mickie when the ring announcer pulled Beth out, threw her into the ringpost, then counted a three count for Mickie.
(4) Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard & JTG) & Maria beat Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith & Natalya) in a six-person tag match. Not memorable at all. Shad picked up the win.
(5) Matt Hardy beat Finlay. The crowd exploded when Finlay's music hit, assuming it was Hornswoggle. The pop quickly died when Finlay walked out. A couple minutes into the match, Finlay went down holding his knee. The ref through up the X, agents and refs came down, etc., then Finlay kicked Hardy off the apron when Matt was holding the ropes open for Fit. This got MAJOR heat. Hardy, of course, picked up the win.
(6) Intercontinental champion Drew McIntyre beat R-Truth and John Morrison in a three-way match. I believe Truth said "what's up" at least 100 times during his entrance and throughout the match. McIntyre picked up the win.
(7) ECW champion Christian beat Ezekiel Jackson. I felt stupid getting excited when I heard there was an ECW Title match. I was very happy to see Christian, though. Christian was way over with the crowd. Time to get him off the "C show" and put him on Raw or Smackdown to mix him into the World Title chase. The peeps were treated to a victory.
(8) Rey Mysterio beat C.M. Punk. Big Hispanic crowd, which loved Rey. I knew WWE would send the crowd home happy, but I at least wanted to see Go 2 Sleep. Punk may have officially been given the title of WWE MVP after Jericho held the title for a couple years straight. Rey teased the 619 at least five times, with Rey finally hitting it to end the show.
Overall, not a bad show. Everyone put on a decent show except for Koslov and Reks, in my opinion. Definitely not the best house show I've been to. No Taker, Edge, Batista, or Jericho. I didn't expect any of them to be there except maybe Jericho.
