TNA house show report
February 6, 2010
Joplin, Missouri
Report by Mike Feiveson, Torch reader
I attended the TNA house show in Joplin on Saturday night and it was a pretty good crowd for the area. The event was held at Memorial Auditorium with what appeared to be a sell-out crowd of a couple thousand. Don West was hawking merchandise and Team 3D was signing programs before the show.
(1) Chris Sabin beat Jay Lethal in 12:00. Both wrestlers played to the crowd. They used all their moves and had quite a few near pins. Sabin won at about 12 minutes with his off the tope rope DDT.
(2) Knockouts champion Tara beat ODB in 10:00 with Shark Boy as guest referee. Very good match. Back and forth and Tara had the stronger crowd reactions. ODB had Tara down for most of the match, then Tara won with the Widow's Peak. After the match, ODB complained to Shark Boy and got a stunner. Pretty funny.
(3) Samoa Joe beat Abyss via submission in 14:00. Samoa Joe was way over with the crowd. Basic Samoa Joe match. He used all his moves and it was a good back-and-forth with a lot of nearfalls. Joe won with his rear naked choke submission.
Earl Hebner came out to ref a match, but Jeremy said he was suspended by Hulk Hogan, so they escorted him to the back.
(4) TNA tag champions Matt Morgan & Hernandez beat Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon). Best match of the night. Back and forth for the first few minutes, then 3D worked over Morgan for a few minutes. Hernandez then came in and cleaned up. The finish saw 3D throw Hernandez out of the ring to work on Morgan, but Morgan put down Bubba and Hernandez flew off the top rope with a splash and the win.
(5) The Pope D'Angelo Dinero beat Desmond Wolfe. The Pope was way over with the crowd. Back-and-forth to begin with Wolfe putting down the USA verbally. After nearfalls each way, The Pope won when he did his charging knees in the corner after lowering his kneepads to clobber Wolfe and score the pin.
(6) Jeff Jarrett beat Mr. Anderson. Anderson was controlling Jarrett the whole match. Jarrett then got in his offense before Slick took a bump. Wolfe then came to ringside and grabbed a chair, but hit himself with the chair after missing Jarrett against the ropes. Hebner came back in and stopped Jarrett from using the chair. Slick came to and got Hebner out of there. The finish saw both Jarrett and Anderson try their finishers and Jarrett reversing Kennedy for the pin.
Overall, a great show. TNA's house shows are much better than expected. Jeremy Borash did the ring announcing and worked up the crowd. They passed out backstage passes all night and had all the wrestlers come out for autographs after the show. Jarrett took pictures in the ring. Lockdown is in St. Louis in April, so maybe they will come back with a bigger crowd than expected.
