WWE Smackdown house show results
January 8, 2012
Baton Rouge, La.
Report by William Cadden, PWTorch reader
The show started off with Hornswoggle getting the crowd pumped up. He got a good reaction from the crowd. Cody Rhodes came out shortly after Hornswoggle and attacked him. He then started to insult everyone and claimed that he was Smackdown, drawing a lot of boos from the crowd, except for me and two others in the crowd. Ted DiBiase came out next to help Hornswoggle, then Rhodes walked out and Jinder Mahal came out for a match with DiBiase.
(1) Ted DiBiase beat Jinder Mahal. Great match that went back and forth throughout. Mahal got a lot of heat and DiBiase started a "USA" chant before the match that continued throughout. DiBiase won with his Dream Street finisher.
(2) Ezekiel Jackson & Trent Barreta beat Drew McIntyre & Husky Harris via submission. Very good match with lots of back and forth on the two sides. I enjoyed seeing Harris wrestle. Jackson took the victory with the Torture Rack on Drew.
(3) Hunico beat Tyson Kidd. I thought this would be a lame match at first, but I was proven wrong. It was a great match between to skilled wrestlers. The crowd was loving Tyson and Hunico got some heat. With lots of assistance from his compadre, Hunico won with his impersonation of Jeff Hardy's Swanton Bomb.
Cody Rhodes then returned to the stage to get more heat from the crowd. Justin Gabriel came out and an Intercontinental Title match was announced.
(4) Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes beat Justin Gabriel to retain the IC Title. Great match. Both men were at the top of their game and Rhodes retained with Cross Rhodes. Afterward, Rhodes attacked Gabriel, then DiBiase and Hornswoggle came out to assist him. Rhodes took all three of their finishers.
(5) Natalya beat A.J. with Aksana as special referee. Okay match. Natalya won with she and Aksana jumped A.J. Alicia Fox and Tamina came to A.J.'s rescue.
(6) Sheamus beat Wade Barrett in a No DQ match. Great match at that. Barrett came out to pick at the crowd about taking out Orton. He got a lot of heat. Sheamus probably got the biggest reaction of the night. The crowd loved him. The match went back and forth. Sheamus took a beating with a chair and Kendo stick, but won the match with a Brogue Kick.
There was a short intermission for the cage to be set up for the main event.
(7) World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan beat Big Show in a steel cage match to retain the World Title. Bryan didn't get a big crowd reaction. A little heat here or there, but that was it. The crowd went crazy for Big Show. It was a pretty good steel cage match. Barrett and Mahal opened the door and attacked Big Show while Bryan crawled out to retain the title. Sheamus came back out to assist Big Show.
Overall, it was a great show and recommended to check out.
