TNA house show results
January 21, 2012
Plymouth, Mass.
Report by Manny, PWTorch reader

This was actually my first TNA event and I thought they put on a pretty good show. It was held in Plymouth's Memorial Hall, which seats about 1,500. I'd estimate attendance at between 500 and 600, but I could be off.

The show started off with So Cal Val promising backstage passes to the "loudest" fans in Plymouth. Just when she picked out two fans for the prize, Sarita and Rosita appeared and antagonized her, saying no one would be going backstage to bother them, then they tore up the tickets. Out came ODB and Brooke Tessmacher. ODB pulled out another pair of tickets from her cleavage and offered the heels a match with the backstage passes on the line.

(1) ODB & Brooke Tessmacher beat Sarita & Rosita. Pretty decent women's contest. It mainly consisted of Brooke getting beat on, with Rosita and Sarita working the crowd for great heat. Combined with their appearance later in the show, they probably got some of the best heat all night. The crowd was begging for ODB, and she finally got in with the hot tag to clear house. Brooke got back in to pick up the feel-good pin after a crossbody. She gave the passes to a little kid in the front row.

(2) Garett Bischoff beat TNA TV champion Robbie E. (w/Rob Terry) in a non-title match. Decent match, but kind of a snoozer. Robbie E. didn't get much of a reaction for the Jersey Shore thing, but he did get some decent heat for a spot before the match when he turned his back and counted to three to give Garrett a chance to escape. Robbie controlled most of the match until the end. Rob Terry tried to provide the distraction on the apron, but got knocked off by Robbie after Garett moved, allowing Bischoff to pull off a quick pin. Robbie literally laid on his back kicking and screaming after the loss, which was humorous.

(3) Shannon Moore beat Jesse Sorensen and Kid Kash in a three-way X Division match. Kid Kash was probably the best part of this match - he just knows how to work a crowd. He got some good heat teasing the fans before the match, pretending he was going to toss Sorensen's football to the fans and instead flipped off each section of the crowd. He then really worked over Sorensen with some nice physical offense and showboating. Moore did next to nothing. He took a few shots from Kash, but spent most of the match writhing on the outside of the ring. The crowd was really behind Sorensen as the face and mostly lukewarm towards Moore. Moore picked up the win after jumping in out of nowhere and laying out Kash with a DDT.

Sorensen and Moore worked the crowd post-match and tossed Sorensen's football to some fans. Kash revived shortly after the loss and he was clearly busted open pretty good - I'm unsure if he broke his nose on the DDT, but his nose and mouth were covered in blood. He had a towel to wipe up the blood and chucked it at Sorensen in anger before walking out. Kash is really a pro, even being busted up he still worked the crowd to generate some post-match heat. Of note, Sorensen tweeted after the match, "Just broke Kid Kash's nose!"

(4) Eric Young beat "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero. Really great comedy match. Dinero got some heat pre-match by heading to ringside and putting his sunglasses on a little kid. He then quickly pulled the sunglasses back and laughed his way into the ring to boos. There were also a few "D-Von" chants directed towards Pope. Young was very popular and his gimmick is pretty fun. He kept tying up with the ref to the ref's complete confusion and Dinero's annoyance. Eventually, the ref actually got mixed up with Pope, laying him out with a scoop slam. He then looked as his own hands as if in amazement at his own power. This resulted in a funny bit where Young and Pope kind of looked at each other and considered teaming up to beat down the ref. But, in the end, Young scooped up Pope with a quick roll-up for the pin.

Post-match included a fun spot where Pope again teased giving the same kid his sunglasses and pulled them away. As he walked up the ramp, So Cal Val came out of nowhere, grabbed the sunglasses, and ran back to give them to the kid while a ringhand ran interference on Pope. That got a great reaction from the crowd.

[Intermission. Sarita and Rosita signed autographs and took photos ringside.]

Next was RVD & Mr. Anderson vs. Mexican America. RVD got the pop of the night, with the crowd singing along to his theme music. Anderson also got a great reaction and did some nice mic work pre-match. They did a little stunt where Anderson waited for his mic to descend from the rafters. A ringhand then quickly brought a chair into the ring and placed it behind Anderson while So Cal Val stood on the chair to hand Anderson his mic. Anderson then cut a promo on Mexican America and - in a clear reference to the reports that he changed his look - noted that his hair was naturally brown tonight. "I can prove it if you want," he said, motioning as if to pull down his trunks.

(5) Rob Van Dam & Mr. Anderson beat Mexican America (Hernandez & Anarquia w/Sarita and Rosita). Solid 20-minute match and the crowd was hot for RVD's signature offense. Sarita and Rosita were again really solid generating heat at ringside, and Rosita even took a bump off the apron after Anderson faked out Hernandez. Anderson hit the Mic Check on Anarquia and RVD followed up with the Five-Star Frog Splash for the win. Overall, Anderson and RVD worked pretty well off each other, with Anderson bringing the mic work and RVD really charismatic in-ring. I'd like to see them team up on a more permanent basis since Creative doesn't seem to have much for either at the moment. The pairing reminds me main event tag teams from the past, when guys like Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit would be matched together.

(6) Jeff Hardy beat Christopher Daniels. Daniels did some fun mic work prior to the match, doing the snarky heel bit and mispronouncing Plymouth by saying it phonetically "PLY-MOUTH." He gave the fans permission to start worshipping him, which drew some heat until Hardy's music hit. Hardy got a big pop, closely rivaling RVD's, and the two put on a solid, 20-minute match. Nothing spectacular, though you could really tell how crisp and sharp Daniels is in the ring, especially when he went for the Best Moonsault Ever (which missed - he landed on his feet). Hardy hit all his signature moves except he ended the match with his Reverse of Fate finisher instead of the Swanton. Immediately after the finish, a ringhand jumped in with a bag of ice and helped strap it to Hardy's back - maybe he's moving away from the Swanton due to back pain? He then spent time in the ring taking pictures with fans.

All in all, a really fun show. TNA gives you quite a bit for your money, and everybody had plenty of opportunities to take pictures, get autographs, or meet wrestlers if they wanted to (for a price, of course). Ric Flair, Samoa Joe, and Crimson were a few of the advertised wrestlers who did not appear, but I honestly didn't miss them. I thought the show would suffer without some of the bigger heels, like Roode, but a lot of guys stepped up to fill that role well. The guys who were there put on a great effort and the crowd left excited.

Biggest Pops:

RVD/Hardy
Anderson
Eric Young

Biggest Heat:

Kid Kash (seriously)
Mexican America (especially Rosita and Sarita)
Daniels
