WWE Raw house show results
April 21, 2012
Antwerp, Belgium
Report by Niels de Ruijter, PWTorch reader
The arena had few empty seats. Before the show, there were some “Let’s Go Cena / Cena Sucks” chants. My brother and I went to some Smackdown shows before, this was our first Raw show.
(1) Kofi Kingston & R-Truth beat WWE tag champions Primo & Epico (w/Rosa Mendes) in a non-title match. R-Truth was very over and the crowd was really into Little Jimmy! The match was originally for the Tag Team Titles, but Mike Chioda came in with a note from John Laurinaitis to change the match to a non-title match. It was a very back and forth match with Kofi winning for his team with Trouble in Paradise.
(2) David Otunga beat Alex Riley. Otunga posed in the middle of the ring and was flexing his muscles. The crowd didn’t really enjoy it and then Alex Riley came out to a rather nice pop. The match was very boring and Otunga got the win.
(3) Zack Ryder beat Dolph Ziggler. I was personally really looking forward to this match and it didn’t disappoint! Ryder was really over and the “Woo Woo Woo” chants really did get going! Ryder hit a nice Rough Ryder with Dolph taking it lovely. It was really funny when the security lady from WWE carried out Ziggler.
(4) Lord Tensai squashed Tyson Kidd. Tyson Kidd got in some nice offense before squash mode kicked in and then it was normal Lord Tensai moves. He looks really impressive live.
(5) U.S. champion Santino Marella beat Jack Swagger to retain the U.S. Title. Santino was really over and very fun to watch. Swagger and Santino put on a really good match, which Swagger initially won by interference from Ziggler. But, then Mike Chioda came to the ring to restart the match and the Santino hit the Cobra for the win.
[Intermission]
(6) Bella Twins beat Divas champion Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres. There were some "Hoeski" chants and then there was some Twin Magic for the win.
(7) John Cena beat The Miz. Miz did a promo talking really slow and then went on to speak some German, not Dutch. This was for me really confusing, because did he know where he was? John Cena came out to a very loud pop, but then it changed to some "Let’s Go Cena / Cena Sucks" chants. The match had some botches, but was very enjoyable because The Miz and Cena can really play to the crowd. Cena got the win with the AA.
(8) WWE champion C.M. Punk beat Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Title. A really great match with a promo from Jericho and some very nice reactions for Punk! Jericho cut a promo on Punk, but interrupted to start the fight. Jericho threw a beer over Punk and Otunga interfered, but Punk still hit the GTS for the win! Afterward, he played the crowd very well to end the show and the tour.
Conclusion: Very enthusiastic crowd from start to finish. Superstars who performed well, but it felt forced sometimes. The Smackdown crew is scheduled to come to Brussels in November 2012 and I will be there ringside!
