WWE Supershow results
January 24, 2015
E. Rutherford, N.J. at the Izod Center
Report by Mike Omansky, PWTorch correspondent
Est. crowd: 7,000 range (very rough estimate due to lighting).
Top News: After the main event, John Cena had the lights turned up and he gave a speech about the history of WWE at the Izod Center, and of course how the fans were more important than the building. Prior to final match, WWE aired a three-minute video on the “history” of WWE at Izod Center, as this was the final WWE show before it closes down... In one of the dumbest possible "Fans's Choice" votes, fans got to vote if the Rusev vs. Eric Rowan match would be title or non-title. Title won 96 to 4 percent. ... Very good show overall.
(1) IC champion Bad News Barrett beat Dolph Ziggler and Luke Harper in a triple threat to retain the Intercontinental Title. Barrett pinned Ziggler after hitting him with the forearm. Fast-paced opener with the typical formula of the heels working together to double-team Ziggler for the first few minutes until Barrett clocked Harper from behind. Two Zig-Zag attempts by Ziggler, once on each man, yielded two counts. All well done. (***)
(2) Darren Young beat Tyson Kidd with a powerslam for the pin. They tried hard, but it was fairly uneventful. (*)
(3) U.S. champion Rusev (w/Lana) beat Erick Rowan via submission to retain the U.S. Title. Rusev won with The Accolade in a decent match. Rowan dominated for the first four minutes, tossing Rusev around like a ragdoll. Then, it was more back and forth. Finally, Rowan missed a dive off the top ropes, got up, and took a kick to the head into the finisher. Prior to the match, Lana did the usual anti-American talk, and pictures of Vladimir Putin were shown on the big screen. (*1/2)
(4) Chris Jericho beat Cesaro with the Codebreaker for the pin. Initially, Jericho came out to talk. He spoke of The Authority being bad, Triple H being bad and having a big nose, and his history at Izod Center. He spoke of winning the IC Title here, main-eventing on Raw, etc. Cesaro came out to interrupt and slapped him in the face a few times. Jericho punched back, a ref emerged, and the match started. (*1/2)
(5) Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt & Big Show. Best match of the night. Awesome ring entrance for Wyatt with the usual sea of lights. Show avoided getting in the ring with Reigns for the whole match, so the bulk of the match was Wyatt and Show taking turns beating down Ambrose, who offered an occasional comeback, but not enough to make the tag. Excellent action between Wyatt and Ambrose made the match. For the finish, Reigns got the hot tag and ultimately speared Wyatt for the pin. (***1/2)
(6) Natalya & Paige beat Alicia Fox & Cameron via submission. Natalya won with the Sharpshooter rather handily. Pretty good for a Divas tag match. (*1/2)
(7) Ryback beat Kane with Shellshock for the pin. Lumbering, uneventful match that went less than 10 minutes. (1/2*)
(8) John Cena beat Seth Rollins in a Steel Cage main event. Cena won with the AA for the pin in about 20 minutes. Good interaction as always between the two; near escapes by each. At the 17-minute mark, Big Show came out to slam the cage door on Cena, who was trying to exit for the win. Show then came into the cage to kick Cena off an attempted pin. Show chokeslammed Cena for Rollins to get on top, but Cena kicked out at two. Cena recovered to give Big Show an AA, then one to Rollins for an immediate pin. (***)
