John Cena is a moron. Sorry it needs to be said and said a lot in light of his recent interview with The Sun online. It bears repeating; John Cena is a moron. How can you defend his comments about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? I’ll provide some quotes for those who missed it.
"What I kind of get peeved about, and this is my Achilles heel, is that I've wanted to do this my whole life. Rock falls into that category. At one point he loved wrestling and wanted to do this all his life. So explain to me why he can't come back. Simply put it's because he wants to be an actor and there's nothing wrong with that. He's very good and very successful. Associating with sports entertainment doesn't do much for his acting career. I get it. Just don't f*** me around and tell me that you love this. That's the only thing that gets me really p***ed off. Our fan base have so much admiration for him, he's got to respect that. He doesn't give anything back."
The Rock didn’t ask anyone to stick up for him and that is not what this is about. I am not that big of a Rock fan neither as a wrestler nor as an actor. One thing that I can appreciate about Rock is the fact he was able to get what he wanted out of wrestling and moved along when greener pastures came along.
Look, Dwayne Johnson is a serviceable actor who gets by on his charisma in lieu of actual acting ability. If he ever gets the actual acting portion of his career going he could become a large star in legit films, not some dumb Disney trash where the average median age of people watching rounds at about nine. Sure they make money and it will help him get other roles but if he wants legit parts with legit directors and still try and make some good money he needs to improve.
He did the same thing in his wrestling career. He started off with a good dash of charisma but couldn’t work. He cut average promos and his charisma carried him beyond that and his awful haircut. One he got comfortable and was allowed to show himself, he became a star and brought in ridiculous amounts of money for himself and for WWE/F.
He main-evented WrestleMania’s and even when not in the main event slot he was part of the biggest matches. All the while he gave to the fans by traveling, working hurt and doing all the appearances asked of him. He survived the WWE lifestyle and travel and did not become a statistic like so many other wrestlers have as well. He had busted his ass for years and when the gate opened to new opportunity he took it and didn’t look back.
Oh wait, yes he did. He came back time and again to have different feuds and angles. He even weakly put over Shane “Hurricane” helms at one point during his return. He had the single most entertaining segments on Raw whenever he appeared and showed what a real star looks like and acts.
Balancing acting and wrestling doesn’t work and can’t work. Rock is making legitimate Hollywood films. John Cena is making WWE films. Yes there is a difference, a big difference.
See when you go to a theatre and the fifteen minutes of previews starts a Rock movie gets a polite hush followed by some laughter and whispering. When a WWE film, regardless of the star, it gets hisses and laughter of an impolite kind. People do not respect wrestling and will not respect wrestling films. The WWE logo is poison to a film before the trailer even begins. Once Jon Cena’s face pops up on screen the interest, what little there was in the first place, fades.
This is turning in to something it isn’t intended. Most people reading this know that WWE films are not good. I have seen them all and feel safe in that opinion. The point of all of this is the fact that John Cena has no idea what he is talking about.
Dwayne Johnson has given more to wrestling and the WWE in his stint than John Cena probably ever will. Admittedly Rock had a stronger support staff during his run but the fact remains he brought in more money, created more interest and had many more memorable moments than John Cena has at the same point in their careers.
Rock gave enough and got out. Who is John Cena to say he hasn’t given back? What exactly does Rock need to give back? Maybe that should have been a follow up question. It is possible to love wrestling and no go back. It is possible to love something and not do it any longer. You often hear of athletes, coaches and even businessmen speak of retiring/resigning and going off to do other things. It happens a lot in wrestling as well. Rock made his choice and is on to the next phase of his life. Unlike some recent retirees, Mick Foley, who will not stop coming back or even the legendary retirements of Terry Funk where it became sadder and sadder every time he came back. Rock took his ball, put it in a glass case and can look at his legacy fondly. He achieved everything he could in wrestling.
Who is John Cena to criticize and demand more of someone who has accomplished more? Rock has not disparaged wrestling in anyway. If he had bad mouthed WWE n public and denounced wrestling then sure, every WWE wrestler the Rock worked with has the right to be upset. This hasn’t happened though. Maybe that is part of rocks love of wrestling.
Maybe one day John Cena will see the error of his ways. Maybe if he makes a film people and more importantly producers and talent agencies find appealing and marketable he can leave wrestling behind and not give back as he would say.
Or maybe John Cena isn’t a moron at all. Maybe he’s trying to build a WrestleMania dream match with rock for next year. Maybe Vince McMahon put the big in John’s ear to make a bold statement to get at Rock for not wanting anything to do with WrestleMania this year.
You know if someone did tell John to make these statements it doesn’t change the fact he is a moron. Only a moronic company man would try and trump up drama for something that is not going to happen at this years WrestleMania. Only a moronic company man wouldn’t point this fact out and accidentally forge to say something in the interview. Cena is in the position to stand up for himself and offer criticism. He is the top guy in the company. He draws the most money and does the most outside of the ring for the company. He has leverage behind the scenes and doesn’t use it for change.
Because he is a moron.
