GUEST EDITORIAL
By John Berger of Altoona, Pa., PWTorch.com reader
These are not predictions as to who I think will win. This is how I, a lifelong wrestling fan, would book Armageddon, were it my job to do so.
ECW Champion C.M. Punk & Kane vs. Big Daddy V & Mark Henry
Probably the least interesting match on the card. It's time to end this and send everyone off to bigger and better things. Punk & Kane win, and Matt Stryker gets a chokeslam for good measure.
--Winners: C.M. Punk and Kane--
Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix - Women's Championship
Both of these women are decent in the ring and could pull together a good match. Mickie gives Beth a run for her money, but now is not the time to take the title off of Beth. She's a great antagonist to any woman on Raw's roster, and the longer she holds the belt, the more it means when someone finally dethrones her.
--Winner: Beth Phoenix--
Finlay vs. The Great Khali
As with the opener, time to move these men on to other things. Hornswoggle shenanigans allow Finlay to take down Khali with the shillelagh.
--Winner: Finlay--
Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy
What happened with Kennedy? He seemed to be on the road to a WWE title, and then just sort of sputtered out. He won the Money In The Bank ladder match, and then WWE booked Edge over him to win that guaranteed contract, and then he got drafted to Raw. From there he got an opportunity for the Intercontinental belt, which he came up short on. Whatever the reason for his shortfalls where titles are concerned may be, these two have had a pretty interesting feud over the past couple of weeks. All without even being in a "real" match with each other. If WWE is still keen on Kennedy as a Main Eventer, he will gain a lot more by getting a victory over Michaels than HBK would by getting the win over Kennedy.
--Winner: Kennedy--
MVP vs. Rey Mysterio
These two should put on quite a match. MVP is good in the ring, great on the mic, and has a fantastic gimmick. Much like Kennedy and Michaels, Mysterio doesn't really have anything to gain with a US Title reign. MVP has more to gain by defeating the former World Heavyweight Champion, and although MVP doesn't look to be entering the World Title picture anytime soon, he's the kind of wrestler who they should keep the title on until that happens.
--Winner: MVP--
Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy
As much as fans dig Hardy, he's not World champion material right now. He's a decent Intercontinental Champion, although this title should be defended at least bi-weekly on Raw. Since winning the title on Sept. 3, he has seemingly defended that title twice, two weeks ago against Snitsky, and on this past Monday's 15th anniversary edition of Raw. Triple H has never needed to win a match to earn a title shot before, and he doesn't need to defeat Jeff Hardy here to earn that title shot, either. Despite this, he seems to be the most likely candidate to win the Royal Rumble in 2008. Much like Kennedy and MVP, Hardy has more to gain with a win here, even if he doesn't go on to win the World Championship.
--Winner: Jeff Hardy--
Batista (c) vs. Edge vs. Undertaker - World Heavyweight Championship
This is a tough pick. There isn't really anyone else on the Smackdown roster in line for a World Title reign. Look for Edge to be "opportunistic" as always, and walk out with the title, setting up a new title chase by either Undertaker or Batista (or both).
--Winner: Edge--
Randy Orton (c) vs. Chris Jericho - WWE Championship
Jericho has been back on Raw for three weeks. He may be back to "Save Us" but don't look for him to do it by winning this match. With two fan favorites as the possible opposition for the winner of this match at the Royal Rumble, and as popular as a Jericho-Hardy match might be, it doesn't make much sense to put Jericho over here. Unless Hunter turns heel again, and defeats Hardy in their match, Orton seems like the obvious pick here.
--Winner: Randy Orton--
