GUEST EDITORIAL
By Terrie Neilson, Las Vegas, Nev., PWTorch.com reader
I wasn't there live in Greenville, South Carolina, nor did I even watch the Against All Odds PPV. But after seeing the reviews and reax everywhere to Tomko's act in the main event, apparently Tomko's important enough to be talked about.
The crux of the opinion is that after all this push as a lone-wolf babyface, that Tomko has turned back heel and is back with Kurt Angle. If I may, and I can't believe I am saying that I could be on the page with Vince Russo and company on this, but I don't think it was a turn. Follow along...
Tomko was originally part of Christian's Coalition. In the early stages of his face turn, Christian got in his face how Tomko owed Christian for everything he has. Much like Traci Brooks with Roode, a major "I own you" guilt trip was being played. Tomko was forced to sit back and watch Christian be the biggest jerk and AJ Styles being the biggest oaf. He had had enough. The owing part of the situation was way downplayed and Tomko saw a way out by way of the Angle Alliance, eventually taking a non-committal Styles with him. But the Angle Alliance wasn't much better, and he escaped there as well. Styles, well, still has committment issues.
So now Tomko is his own man, a lone wolf. A hormone-driven Styles can't pick a fence to stand inside of though he's clearly part of the Angle Alliance. Christian, meanwhile, is a man without a stable, a title, or even a friend. As the sort of "greed is good" video that played on the go-home edition of Impact clearly shows, Christian is a greedy one. At this point he's also very needy, which drives him to kiss up to Tomko, maybe in hopes that he can get back in Tomko's good graces and maybe get his Coalition back. Tomko's attack on Christian in the main event could easily be a Greta Garbo statement of "I want to be left alone". According to the reviews, Tomko left the ring immediately after his attack; doesn't look like he turned as he was not part of the post-match celebration.
Of course, if this is not the way it is explained on Thursday (and please don't spoil me on this), then all of this effort was for naught and a huge waste.
