UFC News: Torch preview of tomorrow's UFC 85 Bedlam PPV: Can Matt Hughes rebound? Will Bisbing continue to rise? Jun 6, 2008 - 11:16:06 AM
Well folks it's almost time for the UFC's latest foray into the UK as they bring us UFC 85: Bedlam Saturday night live (but mostly taped) from the O2 Arena in London, England. This show has endured more face-lifts than Joan Rivers (man that was bad).
Let's see here. First, the main event was scheduled to be Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a PPV main event worthy fight. Well, Shogun got hurt, so insert Rashad Evans to take on the Iceman. It wasn't quite the same, but it was very intriguing nonetheless. Then Liddell went down. In comes James Irvin to battle "Sugar" Rashad. It was no longer main event quality, but it certainly wasn't without it's charm. Well, fate stepped in again and slapped James Irvin. So now he's out and so is Rashad, because the UFC has apparently realized trying to find Rashad Evans another opponent was about as futile as telling Gary Shaw that Kimbo has no business in the main event of an MMA card (somebody stop me).
So let's recap. We went from Liddell fight Shogun in a probable #1 contender's fight, to Liddell fighting Rashad in a possible #1 contender's fight, to Rashad fighting James Irvin in a middle of the main-card fight, to Rashad watching from the couch with the rest of us. Got it? Add to that the fact that Eddie Sanchez and Kevin Burns are both replacement fighters, and the UFC just needs to get this event over with before their whole roster is on the DL. So I'll do my part by getting on with the winners...errr...predictions...
