ETC. News: Nick Hogan Bollea arrested today for driving recklessly after drinking alcohol Nov 7, 2007 - 4:24:06 PM
Nick Bollea, a/k/a Nick Hogan, was arrested earlier today. He turned himself in on charges of reckless driving involving serious bodily injury, according to reports out of Florida. The passenger in the car he crashed in August remains comatose.
He was handcuffed as he arrived at the police station today, accompanied by two police officers. He didn't answer any media questions as he entered Pinellas County Jail to be booked.
Bollea's blood test for alchohol came back at a positive of 0.055, well above the 0.02 limit allowed for a driver under age 21. The legal limit for a 21-plus adult is 0.08. He was under that. He also had illegal window tinting.
The St. Petersburg Times reports that Nick was boating with his father, Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) and friends. A friend said Nick was drinking on the boat, but he didn't know what he was drinking.
Key article excerpt:
Eight witnesses told police they saw the Dodge and Viper racing through downtown Clearwater and revving their engines in the moments before the accident, according to Turpack's statement.
While stopped at a red light a half a dozen blocks west of the crash site, Denise Cirella told police that Bollea's Supra was on her right and the Viper was on her left. Looking at Bollea, she saw him grimace at the men in the Viper, and when the light turned green, both cars "tore off" at a high rate of speed, she said.
Several blocks away, Rabih Cheaib saw the cars speed by Rita's Italian Ice, where he was waiting at the drive-through. Cheaib told police he could hear "turbos whistling" from the Supra as both cars sped by and saw the Supra about a half to a full car length in front of the Viper. He estimated their speed at more than 60 mph and said both were "accelerating hard," according to police.
Witness Despina Sibley told police the two cars appeared to be playing "cat and mouse."
"She indicated after a few moments, both vehicles began to accelerate at a high rate of speed, and the silver car passed the yellow car very rapidly," Turpack wrote.
