WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES

Lucha wrestler Lince Dorado crashed and injured himself at a Chikara Pro show on Sunday. Here’s an update from Chikara Pro’s Myspace page: As most of you are well aware, Lince Dorado was knocked unconscious and lapsed into seizure while attempting a back splash on Mitch Ryder at tonight's Chapter 11 card. He was taken a local Philadelphia hospital immediately thereafter, and we are pleased to report that after a CAT scan and a few hours to rest and gather himself, Lince was released just over an hour ago. While he has been diagnosed with a serious concussion, and is suffering some understandable stiffness in his back and neck, Lince was in good spirits on his way back to Hotel CHIKARA, and wants to thank everyone for their support and understanding after the injury. He will remain State-side for the next few days and make at least one more trip to be examined before he is cleared to return to Mexico.

The final match of that Chikara show – Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Hero – was canceled because of Dorado’s injury. “Due to the circumstances following his injury, we decided it was inappropriate for the event to continue, and the evening’s final match will be rescheduled as soon as possible.” Chikara wrote.

The Heavy On Wrestling Show in Duluth, Minn., drew anywhere from 500 to 850 people, according to people at the show. However, Jake “the Snake” Roberts showed up intoxicated and worked a three-minute match; apparently, a snake handler had brought a snake to the building, but he refused to let Roberts use his snake because of the shape he was in. Also, Rikishi didn’t show up until almost intermission, and Christy Hemme said she was injured and didn’t wrestle, so she was a referee instead.

Meanwhile, Rowdy Roddy Piper appeared for a “Piper’s Pit” segment in EWF in Indiana on Saturday. However, he decided to leave in the second-half of the show, leaving before signing autographs for fans who waited to see him. I’m reading some angry comments today from some EWF fans.

In Pro Wrestling Renaissance, Billy Roc won a 12-man tournament to win the “Lucha Cup.” Noted wrestlers in the tournament include Jake & Dave Crist (the Irish Airborne) and Josh Abercrombie, who has appeared in ROH, PWG, and Wrestling Society X.

In other news…

Shawn “Khosrow” Daivari will team up with his younger brother, Arya, for Insane Championship Wrestling in Milwaukee, Wis., on Dec. 14. Also on the show are Austin Aries, Drake Younger, and Silas Young.

Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, Claudio Castagnoli, and NWA tag champions Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson & Joey Ryan are heading to Australia this week for shows.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
