WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES
This is a HUGE indy weekend, as almost all the major indies are in action!
To kick it off tonight, IWA Mid-South has Ian Rotten’s retirement match, as he faces his prized pupil, Mickie Knuckles. Rotten is a hardcore legend, and definitely a hero among the Midwest faithful. IWA also will run on Saturday before taking a three-month break to re-organize.
Another major show tonight is the International Wrestling Cartel returning to Elizabeth, Penn., with A.J. Styles vs. Homicide vs. Christopher Daniels, Low Ki vs. John McChesney, Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley vs. Matt Cross & Josh Prohibition. IWC continues its big weekend on Saturday, with Dennis Gregory vs. Raymond Rowe, John McChesney vs. Larry Sweeney, The Gambinos vs. Jason Gory & Shiima Xion, Delirious vs. Eric Young, plus Samoa Joe, Sandman, Shane Douglas! . I have just finished watching another excellent IWC show (their just-released November show), and that review will go up early next week. Learn more about this exciting promotion at www.iwcwrestling.com.
Jersey All Pro has a major show on Saturday in Rahway, N.J. This packed lineup includes B-Boy vs. Azrieal vs. Archadia, Homicide & Hernandez vs. Low Ki & Teddy Hart vs. Eddie Kingston & Slyk Wagner Brown, Jay Lethal vs. Human Tornado, Frankie Kazarian vs. “Crowbar” Devon Storm, A.J. Styles vs. Chris Hero. This is B-Boy’s final JAPW match, as he will retire after his final match in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in early January. Learn more at www.japw.net. JAPW also has a small TV taping tonight.
Combat Zone Wrestling, Dec. 8, Philadelphia, Penn., “The Cage of Death,” with Drake Younger & Danny Havoc & Necro Butcher & Toby Klein vs. Brain Damage & DJ Hyde & Scott Vortekz & Dustin Lee in the cage. I’ve seen a few of the Cage of Death shows; while the cage match itself usually doesn’t interest me, these shows are typically four hours or more, and the crowd is always huge for CZW’s big season finale.
Chikara Pro wraps up the big weekend with a free show Sunday at State College, Penn., at the Alumni Hall on Penn State campus. Bell time is 4 p.m. The main event Chris Hero vs. Claudio Castagnoli, which was slated for the season finale show, before an unfortunate injury to Lince Dorado caused this match to be scrapped. Thus, this show is built around ending Chikara Pro’s year, and they will take the rest of December and January off. Learn more at www.chikarapro.com.
In other news:
ROH has announced a buy 3 DVDs, get one free, sale on EVERYTHING they sell. (This sale usually only applies to ROH DVDs.) Go spend your money at www.rohwrestling.com! The sale goes through Tuesday.
I offer condolences to the promoter of FIP. His wife and unborn child died recently. FIP, quite understandably, will not run its planned shows next week.
And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
