Hogan News: Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff to launch new pro wrestling promotion Feb 15, 2008 - 12:38:04 PM
The U.K. Sun is reporting today that Hulk Hogan is working with Eric Bischoff on a new pro wrestling organization to compete against WWE. Hogan told the Sun that he is wrapping up a major TV agreement in the U.S. for their promotion to air.
Hogan told the Sun: "Last night me and Eric were getting ready to sign a deal with one of the TV networks here in America. We had a little bit of a problem with the licensing and merchandising, which has delayed it. But I totally expect we’re going to sign the TV portion of this very soon, because there’s no point in starting any sort of wrestling organization without the TV locked in place."
Hogan said the network they've signed with wants to make a big deal out of the promotion, so they are trying to get their ducks in a row before an official announcement.
Regarding the direction of the promotion, Hogan told the Sun: "The basic idea will be the same as WWE, but I pray to god it’s nothing like what’s on TV now.I’m a fan, but it is pretty boring programming. It’s watered down and unexciting, and the viewer doesn’t have any option except to have it shoved down his throat."
Hogan also took a veiled shot at the McMahon family members writing TV: “We’re going to have a lot of back story for viewers to understand why these people are doing what they're doing. It won’t be family members in the back writing storylines on things they know nothing about."
As far as talent is concerned, Hogan said there are "a lot of unhappy campers in the WWE" and there is a new breed of talent that McMahon hasn't discovered yet. He said he doesn't speak to McMahon, so he's not concerned about what he thinks of the new organization.
