WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES

Welcome back, everyone! There are some big shows this weekend, with ROH returning to the East Coast for a double-header, IWC running on Saturday near Pittsburgh, and PWG running big show Sunday in California.

Tonight, ROH heads to Hartford, Conn., featuring Austin Aries & Bryan Danielson vs. Roderick Strong & Davey Richards. On Saturday, for the next PPV taping, ROH moves to Philadelphia, Penn., with Austin Aries & Bryan Danielson vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black, Roderick Strong vs. Erick Stevens, Nigel McGuinness vs. Go Shiozaki. The Saturday show looks sharp!

IWC returns to Elizabeth, Penn., on Saturday, featuring Jerry Lynn and Ricky Reyes in action. The lineup is below. Learn more at www.iwcwrestling.com.

IWA Mid-South returns to Joliet, Ill., on Saturday, but the lineup has been completely stripped of all the top-name talent that had been advertised just a couple weeks ago. Sabu will be there to sign autographs. IWA said that gas prices simply made it impossible to bring in some of the top names from the East Coast. The new lineup features Chuck Taylor vs. Ego Fantastico, Jason Hades vs. Jayson Quick, Dingo vs. Jaysin Strife, Deranged vs. Tank, Mike Elgin vs. C.J. Otis, the Midnight Rider vs. Vito Thomaselli. Sadly, this looks quite skippable to me.

PWG rounds out the lineup for this weekend, with Jack Evans & Roderick Strong vs. Chris Hero & Necro Butcher, Austin Aries vs. El Generico, Davey Richards vs. Brandon Bonham.

In other news…

Mickie Knuckles debuted on TNA Impact last night! For those who haven’t seen her before, Knuckles is a VERY hard-hitting competitor, training for years with Ian Rotten in IWA-Mid South. She regularly fights men, and does score some wins, too! I’ve seen her compete in first blood matches and some hardcore matches. Here’s hoping that TNA “lets Mickie be Mickie,” so she can show off some bruising-style wrestling that will surprise people who haven’t seen her before. I applaud her on her opportunity.

I also applaud TNA for acknowledging Amber O’Neal, Daffney and Becky Bayless in the crowd. Bayless is more of an interviewer and manager than a wrestler, but O’Neal is solid in the ring (and she’s competed for Shimmer Women’s Athletes since its inception.) I wouldn’t mind seeing Awesome Kong toss O’Neal around next week!

I’ve updated the lineup below for the Chikara Pro “Young Lions Cup” tournament, which runs next week. This event is open to wrestlers under the age of 25. There aren’t too many well-known names there (I’ve liked what I’ve seen of Johnny Gargano and Jason Blade. At first glance, those are the guys I’d like to see advance). In any case, Chikara Pro does a good job with this event turning some young wrestler into a “rising star.” Learn more at www.chikarapro.com.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
