Torch Indy Weekend Preview: Terry Funk, Honky Tonk Man, Chikara tournament, BJ Whitmer in EWF, CZW in Phily
Jun 13, 2008 - 4:20:09 PM

By Chris Vetter, torch contributor

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter sees dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest, and regularly watches & reviews indy DVDs. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday and Friday.

WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES

After so many of the top indy promotions ran last weekend, this weekend is fairly bare. The highlight is the three-day Chikara Pro “Young Lions Cup” tournament. I noted this before… Chikara opens this tournament to wrestlers under the age of 25. Most of these wrestlers are unknown, rising, talented athletes. I’ve posted the lineups below.

Combat Zone Wrestling returns to Philadelphia, Penn., at the former ECW Arena, with Chuck Taylor vs. Sabian, Danny Havoc & partner vs. Necro Butcher & partner.

Honky Tonk Man, Eugene Dinsmore, and Terry Funk will all be in Heavy On Wrestling in Superior, Wis., on Saturday.

B.J. Whitmer, Davey Richards, and Silas Young are the top names in the EWF “Elite 8” tournament Saturday in Marion, Ind.

In some sad news, UWA Hardcore in Canada is shutting down. The promotion had some really hot shows to end 2006 and into early 2007, but it has struggled with venue changes and other problems. I REALLY liked the old venue, and I thought this was a promising indy promotion. The final shows will be Aug. 15 & 16. Go to www.uwahardcore.wrestling.com for more info.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
