Other News: Oscars preview? Status of whether Mickey Rourke won Golden Globe for Best Actor tonight Jan 11, 2009 - 10:00:06 PM
At tonight's 66th annual Golden Globes ceremony airing on NBC, Mickey Rourke won the Best Actor for his lead role in "The Wrestler." Rourke beat Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Brad Pitt to win the prestigious award.
A similar cast of contenders is expected to be lined up for the Academy Awards, where nominees will be announced later this month.
So glad he won and the crowd did too. What a big deal that he did.
Hopefully the movie will be nominated for an oscar and the director too.

Yeah, Mickey. Very cool.
I saw the movie today. The story of Randy the Ram turns out to be pretty
sad, but you can't help but wonder if this kind of life is par for the
course for most ex-superstars from the 80s.
The scene at the poorly attended autograph show was especially depressing.
I don't attend indy shows or go to autograph signings, but I'm curious to
hear from anyone reading: is this the way it is? Is it as pathetic as
they portrayed it in the movie?
I'd also be curious to see if the PW Torch staff would be willing to do a
kind of "where are they now" feature that actually tells us what happened
to any of the forgotten stars who didn't drop dead before age 50. Are they
okay? Or are many of them living a life much like Randy the Ram?

Awesome! ! ! I know there are several people who come on here just to read
this internet site and pick on the writers, but they were spot on in their
praise of this movie and pushing it. Now that it has won such an award,
many more people will go and see it. I am sure Vince is see red right
now...LOL

Grr, I hate these kind of trick headlines. Can't you just write "Rourke
wins major award" instead? That way, people will still click your headline
and read your news and not feel like a fool.
