Other News: "The Wrestler" director creates controversial moment during Golden Globes awards show Jan 12, 2009 - 2:01:12 AM
Hollywood blogs, including Yahoo's much-read TV blog, are focusing on one controversial moment during Sunday night's Golden Globes awards show when Mickey Rourke accepted the award for Best Actor.
On stage, Rourke thanked director Darren Aronofsky for bringing out the best in him when filming "The Wrestler" movie, and gave him a classic "Mickey Rourke" complement.
"He hates it when I say he's tough, but he's one tough son of a bitch," Rourke said about Aronofsky. The director then created a controversial moment by playfully shooting Rourke his middle finger, which the camera focused on.
"If you're not in shape, the man will bring you down, because I always say he's smarter than the rest of us - maybe not Steven (Spielberg)," Rourke added.
Yahoo's TV blog had Rourke flipping Aronofsky the bird as the second most-memorable moment of the awards show airing on NBC. Anything to create more additional buzz for the movie, which had another great weekend box office.

You torch writers should get out a little more.

"more additional buzz"? This site has become pretty much unreadable. Nearly
every article has a BS mangling of English in it, and you have the nerve to
criticise others.

By "criticise" I mean the smarmy little "(sic)" comments when something is
perfectly correct, and countless other atrocities against the language.
Keller is the worst, if only because he thinks he's so clever.

i'm kind of confused. the third paragraph says the director flipped rourke
off but then the final paragraph says "yahoo's blog" reports that rourke
flipped the director off. did they flip each other off?!
oh and by the way, i could tell caldwell wrote this after i read it. heh.
take that for what it's worth.

Like this one: "and gave him a classic "Mickey Rourke" complement".
I think that should be "compliment" with an "i" as in praise, rather than
"complement" with an "e" as in something that completes.

Guys,
Why are you surprised that Caldwell has turned into mini Hitle... I mean
Keller?
We're talking about a website that made a federal case about the changing
of names to two of John Cena's finishing maneuvers and of course Caldwell
just HAD to mock WWE's marketing approach. Of course what he apparently
either ignores or forgets is that he WAS ONCE A KID that the company
marketed toward. The evolution of the wrestling fan from just being able
to enjoy the show to Mystery Science Theater 3000 "I make unfunny sarcastic
jokes every other sentence in my reviews" is very, very sad.

steve, i totally agree with you. the people that write for the higher end
pro wrestling sites tend to be all bitter and junk. it's almost as if they
don't enjoy wrestling anymore and they hate themselves and wait, what?!
cena changed his finisher's name? haha.
at least torch doesn't try and give you viruses like the other place. i'll
be willing to sift through this.

How can you just sit back and enjoy the show when the show is total shit?

roenn, Ah-ha:
I got viruses from PWInsider too. I even emailed Dave Scherer about it.
His response was sorry, it was the advertisers' fault, we'll clean it up,
but you should really become an elite member so you can avoid this problem
in the future. And of course they never fixed it. I finally had to quit
going to their sites.

bill torres, 'crticise' is the English spelling as opposed to the American
version, and is perfectly correct.

And yes, I am aware that I have also misspelled 'criticise'. Luckily, I
don't care that much.

Heh, leave it to Rourke to actually make an engaging moment in a crappy
award show like the Golden Globes.
And jeez, you guys, why so serious about a professional website featuring
news articles with worse grammar than most things written by retarded
3-year olds? Why so serious?
Rob
12 Jan 2009, 12:36
Why the hell do you guys even come to this site if all you do is bitch and
moan about everything. God you guys are talking about them getting out a
little bit more. You are even worse. You are visiting a site you obviously
do not like. You are wasting your time.
roenn
12 Jan 2009, 13:03
yeah, totally talking about pwinsider. pfft.
and rob, i do like the torch. i've been going here for years, even
contributed a house show report exclusively for them. the thing is, they do
a lot of typoes. they make several mistakes. they report quirky stories.
i think of it like, making fun of a fat kid for being fat. i feel like if i
do this, he'll be motivated to lose the weight and get healthy. if i didn't
care about the torch, i wouldn't come back to this silly page and give them
hits and express my concern.

@Rob: To answer your question, people in this day and age all need to feel
like they're worth something, even if it's posting smarmy anonymous
comments on an Internet board.
Yes, Keller and Caldwell have their faults and this site is far from
perfect. There are typoes and there is misinformation from time to time.
But, in the five+ years I've been visiting this site, it gives me the
information I want and need.
If a person has a problem with the way things are presented here, I'm sure
there is some way to make constructive comments. But these people just want
to whine and moan and make themselves feel important. It's the biggest
negative I see to allowing comments on each article.
WTF'?
12 Jan 2009, 15:24
Roenn "think of it like, making fun of a
fat kid for being fat. i feel like if i do this, he'll be motivated to lose
the weight and get healthy" Gee, toxic much?
ok, the fat kid thing was kind of rude but it was the first analogy i could
think of. i apologize.
as for poetik's comments, i'm not being anonymous. my name really is roenn.
i won't hide my email addy this time in case you or anyone wanted to get a
hold of me. i'm pretty sure you're the one being anonymous "poetik74."
although that would be a cool name if it was legit.
again, i love the torch but a spell check could easily remedy a typo. not
knowing the difference between compliment and complement? that's sad. if
they're not going to care enough to look over their work, why should anyone
else? i mean, i'm definitely still going to come here since i'm a pro
wrestling fan and really, pro wrestling fans never learn, but put some more
effort into your work. please.
