Mick Foley News

-- January 30: Mick Foley grabbed mainstream attention for getting himself disqualified form a food-eating contest Friday in Philadelphia.

PWTorch reader Michael C. reports: "I was at Wing Bowl, and out of all the contestants, Mick Foley got the biggest pop from the crowd. He was given 10-1 odds, and received high praise from the MC of the event, Angelo Cataldi, as the biggest celebrity competitor in the 23-year-history of the event.

"The first round was 15 minutes. With about six minutes left in the first round, Mick was disqualified for stashing wings in his fanny pack. Within the last two minutes, he was interviewed over the P.A. system and cut a promo about changing the rules. He finished with the classic, "Right here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!" which drew a big pop."

The Associated Press covered Foley's hi-jinks almost too seriously, drawing attention from the Washington Post and a local Pa. newspaper looking at the history of the fanny pack.
