WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall says the major health issues that have plagued his life extend all the way back to when he was a bouncer in the early 1980s.

In an interview published for Fox Sports, Hall told wrestling announcer Jim Ross that he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as the result of fatally shooting a man when he was trying to protect a woman at a Florida club three decades ago.

Hall says that he "suppressed his guilt" over the events, then got into the wrestling business where the lifestyle exacerbated his undetected health issues. Hall does not blame the wrestling business for his health issues, though.

"I finally had the courage and the clarity to forgive myself," Hall said. "I had lied to myself for years. I couldn't keep a promise to myself, for instance like saying, 'I'm not drinking today,' and a couple of hours later I'm drinking heavily. Forgiving myself has been the best thing to happen to me."

Hall added: "I had the inability to ask for help when I needed it. People offered to help me but I refused. They'd ask 'How are you?' and I'd answer, 'Better than you.'"

Hall also sent a message to "anyone who will listen" not to travel the same path that he did. "There are people that can help you. Find some professional that you connect with and go for it. Ignoring the problem, the real problem, did not work for me nor do I recommend it to anyone else," he said.

Hall had a re-lapse earlier this year when he made a scene at an independent wrestling show. He says he's trying to focus on being clear-headed during his recovery to get more second chances. He said that being able to attend Summerslam Weekend in New York was a big step for him.

"My life is like driving down a road. I occasionally glance in the rear-view mirror but I'm not focused on the past or looking back anymore. That's why the windshield is bigger than the rear-view mirror. I prefer to look ahead, make my short-term goals, and focus on today. I'm where I'm supposed to be but not where I want to be. Thank God I'm not where I used to be. I'm okay and I'm on my way one day at a time. Help awaits everyone if they truly want it."
