PWTorch.com reader Richard DeFelice sent the following notes from attending Lockdown in person in Lowell, Mass. last night...
First, the MMA start to the title match, the live crowd did not like it at all. From your audio sounds like it came off good on TV. Live it didn't come across good, as the crowd is there for a pro wrestling match, and the MMA style is very boring in person when you know it's a work. It comes off like 1950s pro wrestling.
Barely any little kids at the show compared to the WWE shows. I saw maybe two all night.
In the lobby, Roxy Leroux and the MCM were taking pictures and signing autographs.
Got in the building at 7 o'clock. Dixie Carter was walking around the whole arena, shaking hands, taking pictures, thanking everyone for coming. I met her briefly - a real class act.
Before the show, the "ring girls" had all the TNA belts and people were holding and taking pictures with them.
Vince Russo was standing right in front of me in street clothes the whole night.
Many wrestlers would come out and stand in the arena by the curtain to watch the show.
TNA announced it as their largest live crowd ever, and the building was probably 80 percent full. Ruckus crowd.
Funny note, Jeremy Borash was also standing by me the whole night. At one point, he looked down at the script, his eyes bugged out, he grabbed his microphone, and ran backstage. Not 20 seconds later, he was interviewing Karen Angle. Must have forgot his que and rememebered at the last second.
Crowd was into the whole show, and it came off very well.
The main event was great, although the live crowd hated the MMA aspect to it.
There were ''we want wrestlin'' and ''fire Russo'' chants. Interesting to see him react as he was standing in front of me.
I saw him in action, though. During the figure-four spot, they were losing the crowd. Russo sprinted to the headset, the ref immediately put his hand to his ear, leaned down to the guys, and they did the reverse spot and picked up the pace. He watched the rest of the match hovered over a little monitor by the side curtain, and when Joe won, Russo stood up to walk over to ringside, and he had tears in his eyes.
Overall, great live show. Live, the production seemed a smaller version of WWE events, but not worse. From the pyro to the videos, to the music, etc., didn't look second rate at all.
Funny note: Whenever it got quiet, you could faintly hear the commentating through the speakers, so I couldnt escape Don West even at the live event.
