TNA New: Impact Ratings down up against Obama speech, Sting's big speech draws top rating of show (w/Keller Analysis) Sep 2, 2008 - 12:01:27 PM
Last Thursday's Aug. 28 TNA Impact drew a 1.05 rating, down from the 1.11 rating of the previous week.
The quarter hours tell an interesting story, almost predictably so. It opened strong with a 1.09 rating for a TNA Knockout match (Awesome Kong winning a squash). It dropped from there under 1.0 for the next two quarter hours for an X Division tag match and Karen Angle's sitdown with Abyss (sitdown interviews tend to be ratings killers, but are one of TNA's favorite formats; you never see WWE do extended sitdowns and there's a reason for that). Then ratings went up above 1.0 again for the interview segments with Jim Cornette and Traci Brook's breasts to end the first hour.
Ratings went up from 1.04 1.09 for the Kevin Nash vs. Kurt Angle match. They dropped in Q6 for the post-match angle and the video packages on "The Guitar." Then they made a climb to a 1.06 for Beautiful People vs. Roxxi & Taylor Wilde and peaked at a 1.15 for the featured segment with Sting explaining himself.
Keller's Analysis: TNA should be happy with this. The second hour went up against Barack Obama's speech that was carried on all of the broadcast networks and cable news networks and didn't seem to take a hit (although the drop from 1.09 to 1.00 in hour two coincided with the start of Obama's speech). The women, as usual, drew well, two of the top four ratings behind the show, sharing the honors with the Angle-Nash match and the Sting speech.
