TNA News: Ratings are in for Mick Foley's unannounced debut and Jeff Jarrett's hyped return to Impact (w/Keller Analysis) Sep 19, 2008 - 6:01:25 PM
TNA drew a respectable, typical 1.1 rating last night and a total average audience of 1.5 million viewers, the same as last week. The show built more traditionally then usual in terms of quarter hour trends with a 0.92 at the start, and then a jump to a 1.21 by Q3, with a small drop in Q4 which contained two commercial breaks.
Hour two dropped to a 1.07, but build to a 1.16 in Q7 and a 1.18 for Q8. There was a drop in Q7, but that had two commercial breaks.
Keller's Analysis: TNA really needs to stop having hour two begin with a commercial break. That happened again this week, and the rating dropped from a 1.18 to a 1.07 during that transition. Being at a commercial break when people are shopping for shows at the top of the hour by flipping around is just bad policy. For a post-produced show, it's inexcusibly sloppy.
As for quarter hours, the peak oddly came for the six-man tag with Petey Williams & Johnny Devine & Jimmy Rave vs. The Prince Justice League, plus an interview with Matt Morgan and Abyss. Go figure. There's nothing about that which would indicate it'd be a ratings winner based on past patterns.
The Foley bump should take effect next week, if there is one. I do find it "convenient" that Jarrett didn't put his star power on the line alone as he got the benefit from sharing the stage with the reported debut of Foley. That was the biggest quarter hour jump of the show, from a 1.06 to a 1.18. The mixed tag with Sky & Kip vs. Taylor Wilde & Rhino drew an atypical rating as it was the lowest of the second hour and lowest since Q1. It's almost as if this week someone scrambled the quarter hour results.
