TNA News: Jeff Jarrett addresses working relationship with Vince McMahon and WWE; overall picture of reflective TNA owner

By James Caldwell, PWTorch.com assistant editor

At this stage of his career, TNA owner Jeff Jarrett is satisfied. With TNA Impact's ratings nearly doubled from 0.7 a few years ago, a new DVD out chronicling his career, and TNA's overall business continuing to grow, Jarrett says he can see the fruit of his life-savings investment in the company seven years ago.

Jarrett is still driven to put his mark on pro wrestling in the same way Vince McMahon re-defined pro wrestling 25 years ago, as he says on the new Jarrett DVD. Jarrett might be satisfied with proving people wrong about TNA's longevity and being able to write his own story in the wrestling business. However, Jarrett says he isn't done pushing TNA to achieve more success.

"We strive each and every week, and it's our company motto, to build our brand. And it's the best - you can call it professional wrestling or you can call it sports entertainment," Jarrett told Alfonso Castillo in Newsday. "It's exactly the same thing. We are building the best company we can."

Jarrett admits they don't have WWE's resources in terms of longevity in the wrestling business, executive-level experience or knowledge of the business, but he says the individuals inside the company work harder than anyone else in wrestling.

"We may not be the smartest and we may not have the most, quote-unquote, 'wrestling knowledge,' or sports entertainment knowledge," Jarrett said. "But we've got the hardest-working, most passionate individuals involved in our company. And I'm not talking just our wrestlers. I'm talking the front to office staff and back office staff."

Jarrett says he doesn't have a business relationship with WWE's Vince McMahon, who Jarrett says he competes against for pro wrestling dollars, but he respects him personally.

"I'll say there's a personal relationship with the entire McMahon family and Jeff Jarrett. As far as a working relationship - absolutely not. We're competitors," Jarrett said. "But a personal relationship? Without a doubt. The entire McMahon family was very, very good to me during the passing of my wife, and that's something I'll never forget."

Jarrett didn't close the door on working with McMahon down the line, though. He said wrestling is a business and "when Vince wants to make money off Jeff, he'll make money off Jeff."

Jarrett says it will be up to McMahon, though, despite the WWE chairman calling TNA's programming "reprehensible" a few weeks ago.

"That's classic Vince being classic Vince. He didn't get where he's at by being a dumb ass. But for him to call us reprehensible is laughable," Jarrett said in response to McMahon's comment.

Caldwell's Analysis: There's much more to Jarrett's excellent interview with Alfonso Castillo that I'll look at on Thursday, including Jarrett's thoughts on Kurt Angle, Dixie Carter, and the TNA roster. I wanted to give an overall picture of where Jarrett is personally and professionally at this stage of his wrestling career running the up-start TNA promotion with the timing of his new DVD release.
