KELLER'S TNA IMPACT REPORT
NOVEMBER 15, 2007
AIRED ON SPIKE TV
TAPED 11/10 IN ORLANDO, FLA.
WHAT HAPPENED: 1ST HOUR
They opened with Jim Cornette ranting at Mike Tenay and Don West. He said he's gone for two weeks and "everything goes to hell in a handbasket." He said they are not to mention the names of the two people who appeared in the main event at Genesis because they hadn't signed their contract yet. He said he hoped to have a live contract signing later with those two people. The Impact opening them aired.
Mike Tenay and Don West introduced the show. They previewed the Kurt Angle vs. Kaz main event.
Kurt Angle walked to the ring with Karen Angle, Tomko, and A.J. Styles. Angle said Mrs. Angle sure took care of business as promised. He said he never doubted her for a second. He asked her to take a bow. He told Styles and Tomko that they made the right decision to join the Angle Alliance at Genesis. He said they're now family. Kevin Nash then stepped out onto the stage. Everyone looked a bit nervous in the ring. Nash said he thought they were family. Angle said he's a has-been and wussy. He said he couldn't get the job done. Nash said maybe he's forgetful, but he thought he had Sting beat before he cracked him with the belt. Tenay said that's how he saw it. Angle told Nash to "bring it." When Nash entered the ring, Tomko, Styles, and Angle attacked him. Sonjay Dutt, Chris Harris, Shark Boy, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Black Machismo, Homicide, and Hernandez ran out to make the save.
They showed Christian Cage arrive i his car in the parking garage as they cut to a break.
Nash was caught talking on his cell phone telling someone to get there quickly. He said, "Fun's about to begin now, all alright?" Tenay said he has an idea who that friend of Nash might be. Kanyon, maybe?
1 -- LAX (Homicide & Hernandez) vs. LANCE HOYT & JIMMY RAVE (w/Christy Hemme).
Homicide and Hernandez beat on Rave with a nice mix of double-team moves early. A 4:00 Hernandez dove over the top rope onto Hoyt at ringside. Rave, though, surprised Homicide with a schoolboy for the win. Hemme tried to stop a post-match attack by LAX on Rave. A masked Latino Nation member slapped Christy from behind. It's a mystery who this person is.
WINNERS: Rave & Hoyt in 5:00.
STAR RATING: *1/4
A promo aired backstage with Team 3D. Brother Ray said he sent the interview lady Crystal away. He revealed he had a captive member of the X Division. He was wearing a red hood. He said they are the rightful holders of the X Division belt. He said the letter X no longer exists in the English language. He said they should called themselves the S Division "because you suck!" Ray promised to smack any fans who chant "That was awesome!" in the future. He said the X Division wrestlers can't put themselves over under a fake name by sending positive Reader Reax to PWTorch.com (well, he didn't say the website, but we know what he means). He also demanded the X Division wrestlers hand over their rats and their mothers. He said they had less than an hour to comply.
Christian told Crystal that he hasn't spoken to Styles or Tomko since Genesis. He said he gave it all he had to become the no. 1 contender and keep his undefeated streak alive. He said Styles and Tomko better have a good excuse for what they did at Genesis. He said that chance to explain themselves may come tonight.
2 -- ROBERT ROODE & MS. BROOKS vs. GAIL KIM & CHRIS HARRIS.
Tenay and West plugged next week's Turkey Bowl on Impact where the loser must wear a turkey suit. They cut to a split screen and showed a door backstage that said "Guests." Tenay said behind that door are the two big names whose names they can't mention yet. After a mid-match commercial, they showed Brooks sitting at ringside; Roode forced her to remove herself from the match. Harris's mid-section has really expanded in recent months. Roode KO'd Harris with a chair as the ref was distracted leading to the pin. Roode hit Harris with a chair twice afterward. Then he put his arm in the chair, but Brooks intervened to stop him from jumping onto it. Tenay and West congratulated her for standing up to him. She then yanked the mystery lady at ringside over the barrier and attacked her. Security separated them quickly as Roode laughed in the ring.
WINNERS: Roode & Brooks in 8:00.
STAR RATING: *
Crystal approached the arriving Scott Hall backstage. He said if Angle and his posse want to play.
After a break, Cornette told Matt Morgan that he told him to call him if anyone got out of line. He asked him how that turned into booking matches and bringing in new talent without having signed their TNA contracts. He told him he can't go into business for himself. Morgan said he did what Cornette would have done. Hoyt and Rave interrupted. Hoyt complained that Spike doesn't allow male-to-female contact and LAX just did that (or so he assumes). Cornette said he'd something about it. Then he heard Team 3D's music and said, "What are they doing now!"
They cut to the ring where Team 3D rolled their captive X Division wrestler into the ring. The crowd chanted "That was awesome!" to irritate Ray. Ray threw a fit. Ray asked if Shelley and Sabin had met his list of demands. Out came the MCM Guns with Machismo. Ray said they better have his Ding Dongs. Sabin said they could have asked for anything in the world - money, cars, strippers, even lower cholesterol, but they decided on Ding Dongs. He offered a compromise - Ho Hos. West interjected, "Very similar." He'd know. Sabin added, "Because we got both of your mothers waiting out back." West said, "Touche." Is that the right way to use that word? Devon whipped their captive wrestler. The crowd chanted "That was awesome!" Ray did a great job super-selling his irritation. They unmasked Havok who had tape on his mouth. Lethal demanded they give back his X Division Title. Ray said they should know there's a traitor within their X Division. Shark Boy, Petey Williams, and Dutt jumped Team 3D from behind. They released Havok. Havok then attacked the X Division wrestlers with his stick. West said, "Obviously we know who the traitor is."
Jeremy Borash interviewed Styles and Tomko. Styles said a huge misunderstanding is happening. He looked into the camera and said he wanted to send a message to Christian. He said he felt pressure as team captain. He said he thought adding Kurt to the Coalition would make the team stronger. He said he'd never do anything to hurt the team. He said, "I love you, man. I love you." He asked Tomko if he thinks Cage will understand. Tomko smiled and said he won't. Styles asked if he'll get demoted. He asked Borash ,"What's under captain?" Borash suggested "co-captain." Styles said he could deal with that.
They showed Hall and Nash chatting together backstage. After a commercial break, Hall and Nash walked to the ring. When Hall said "hey yo," Tenay needlessly interjected, "That's money every time." The crowd chanted, "You still got it!" Nash said they've got a partner in mind for a six-man tag match against Angle's team at the Turning Point PPV. Tenay and West wondered who the mystery man would be. It would've been nice to have their reunion on Impact consist of a longer segment with more said.
A video package aired on the new Rellik character.
WHAT HAPPENED: 2ND HOUR
2 -- RELLIK vs. BLACK REIGN vs. ABYSS
Tenay said Rellik comes from Killer spelled backward. Rellik and Reign went after Abyss two-on-one at the start. They cut backstage to Kaz looking nervous as he warmed up for his big match against Angle later. That was a nice touch, similar to what UFC does to show fighters getting psyched for their fights. They cut to a break at 2:00. At 7:00 Abyss made a comeback. Abyss then hit Rellik with a Black Hole Slam for the clean pin. After the match, Reign held Abyss as Rellik bashed him with a chair. Rhino made the save.
WINNER: Abyss at 8:00.
STAR RATING: 3/4* - That's not how I'd debut a new monster on TV - by having him job in a two-on-one advantage situation.
Borash interviewed Angle about Hall & Nash. He asked, "What are we going to do about this?" Angle gave him a hard time about saying "we." He said there is no we. He said he doesn't sweat Hall or Nash. "They're no longer the Outsiders, they're the Overthehillers?" Angle said if Sean Waltman is their mystery partner, "Does he even have the brain cells to make it to the building?" He said as for Kaz, he can get in the ring with a Big Dog, but he won't make a name for himself at his expense.
3 -- AWESOME KONG vs. ALEXA JADE
As Kong destroyed Jade, Kaz was shown again warming up backstage. Kong won with a sitout powerbomb. After the match, Kim walked out talked a little trash and then jumped her. Several referees peeled her off of Kong, then Kong blindsided Kim and gave her the sitout powerbomb.
WINNER: Kong in 2:00.
STAR RATING: * -- I think for some fans, the top TNA-WWE dream match in a few months is going to be Kong vs. Glamazon.
Jim Cornette stood mid-ring and touted the latest big talent acquisition, Booker T and Sharmell. As Booker and Sharmell walked out, West said this proves TNA is a rocket ship that everyone wants to be a part of. Booker said before they talk, they have to get the contract signed. The crowd chanted, "Thank you, Booker." Booker said, "Before this is over, you people will be calling me Booker TNA." Tenay needlessly said, "Boy is that fitting." As Cornette asked him what his goals in TNA are, Christian's music interrupted and out walked Christian. Cornette asked what he wanted. Christian said he wanted to say hi to an old friend. He said he's had some personal problems of late, but since he can't find Styles and Tomko, he wanted to deal with Booker before it turned into a problem. He said he knows Booker is there to become TNA Champion, but he said this is a different world. "There's no scepters, there's no thrones, there's no crowns, but there is one king, and that's me, the Instant Classic Christian Cage." He said he is the real no. 1 contender. Sharmell almost stole the show with her facial expressions. Christian told Booker to get in the back of the line and take his "bleep bleep bleep" with him. Booker jumped Christian and stomped him until Christian rolled out of the ring. Booker said he just took his no. 1 contender spot. "Now can you dig that, sucka!" he shouted.
A video feature aired on Kaz winning the Fight for the Right tournament with the James Earl Jones voiceover guy. Borash asked if magic can happen twice. Kaz paced nervously and said he can only promise to leave everything in the ring and "whatever happens, happens." Good, realistic promo. Then came a Tale of the Tape preview by Tenay.
4 -- KURT ANGLE vs. KAZ - TNA World Hvt. Title match.
It opened with some Kaz armbars. Angle dumped Kaz over the top rope at 3:00, then they cut to a break. Afterward, Angle was in control. Angle clamped on a chinlock at 10:00. Action picked up considerably at 11:00. After a Kaz flurry, Karen distracted the ref. Angle hit a low blow and an Olympic Slam for a convincing near fall. Angle went to the top rope, but Kaz kicked him off balance. He hit a top rope Flex Capacitor for a near fall. The crowd chanted "This is awesome!" Angle avoided a second and then leveraged Kaz's shoulders to the mat for a pin.
WINNER: Angle in 14:00.
STAR RATING: ***1/4 -- Somewhat slow and antiquated opening few minutes with a very good second half.
–As Angle celebrated, Hall and Nash entered the ring. They took turns punching Angle. Tomko and Styles jumped Hall and Nash. Making the save was their mystery partner being revealed, Samoa Joe. Joe cleared the ring of the heels, then stood alongside Hall and Nash as the show came to an end, other than the usual recap video.
