Year 2, Week 25 (Week 77 overall) on Sci-Fi
They opened with Kelly Kelly coming to the ring dressed like a combination of Barbie and Torrie Wilson. Leyla then came out to face Kelly.
1 -- KELLY KELLY vs. LEYLA
Leyla didn't waste any time going after Kelly, but she airballed a dropkick and Kelly mounted Leyla for a hair toss into the mat. Kelly then walked into a drop toe hold into the bottom turnbuckle. Leyla stood on Kelly's pigtails, then Balls Mahoney showed up ringside to cheer on Kelly and distract Leyla. Kelly then went for a handspring elbow smash, but she came up a bit short in the corner. They called an audible and Kelly rolled up Leyla for the win.
WINNER: Kelly in 2:00. Very short and to the point. They might want to stick to the basics before incorporating moves where timing is key. (n/a)
They showed a video package on Big Daddy V. Nothing you haven't seen before. Kane vs. V tonight with Extreme Rules. Also, Miz and Morrison vs. Jesse and Festus.
[Commercial Break]
John Morrison, then The Miz came out for the tag match. No sign of a bell to keep ringing throughout the match to cause information overload for Festus. Jesse and Festus then came out for the tag match.
2 -- ECW tag champs THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON vs. JESSE & FESTUS -- non-title match
The bell sounded and Festus chased the heels to the floor. Jesse started things off, then Festus took a tag and Morrison went looking for a tag. Problem is that Miz had bailed to the floor. Festus worked on Morrison, then he tagged out to Jesse, who worked on Morrison on the mat. A crawler came across the screen that ECW will be on Thursday night next week. Jesse then nailed a big splash on the champs on the floor leading to a break.
[Q2]
[Commercial Break]
They came back with the champs in control on Jesse. Joey Styles mentioned Matt Hardy's emergency appendectomy and wished him a speedy recovery. Festus continued to wait for a tag while pacing the apron, and Jesse finally made a comeback, only to have Morrison drop him on his gut and go back to work. Jesse escaped, finally, and tagged to Festus, who cleaned house on Miz. He then tossed Morrison high into the air before dropping Miz with a fallaway slam. Jesse took a tag and Festus launched him across the ring with a splash on Miz for a two count. The action broke down, the ref was distracted, and Morrison snapped Jesse's neck across the top rope to give Miz the pin on Jesse for the win.
WINNERS: Morrison & Miz in 12:00. Very slow in the middle leading to the hot tag to Festus. Just a tag match to fill a quarter-hour. Could have used a pre-match promo to set the stage. (*1/4)
They aired a video package on Kane.
[Commercial Break]
They aired a video package on the Raw 3-hour special that will be a Family Reunion. More big-name returns probable.
Styles and Tazz recapped the opening match with Kelly beating Leyla. They talked about Kelly's photo shoot in the new WWE Magazine before Styles introduced the Smackdown Rebound, suggesting the Honeymoon between Edge and Vickie Guerrero may be over.
After the SD Rebound aired, Elijah Burke was in the ring. He brought out Shelton Benjamin for an encore performance after last week. Elijah handed over the mic and Shelton said the fans should be thanking Elijah for having the common sense to bring over the best athlete in the company to ECW. Shelton said his presence has raised the bar and it's only a matter of time before he's ECW champion. Shelton said he is the gold standard and there is no one can stop him. He shouted the opening lyrics to his entrance music before they cut to a break. Nice promo. Confident and to the point.
[Commercial Break]
3 -- SHELTON BENJAMIN vs. SHANNON MOORE
Shannon was in the ring when they came back from break, and Shelton shoved him down to the mat before pushing him into the corner. Shannon tried to come back with a double foot kick, but Shelton cut him off and landed an exploder suplex. Shelton then dropped Shannon with a side suplex before driving a boot to his throat. Styles and Tazz talked about C.M. Punk as the gold standard as champion to get his name on the broadcast. Shannon slipped out of a suplex and made a quick pin attempt, but Shelton kicked out. Shannon went for a springboard move, but Shelton quickly countered with a running DDT for the pin and the win.
WINNER: Shelton in 4:00. Basic TV match to get over Shelton's signature moves and let the announcers talk him up. (3/4*)
Kane vs. Big Daddy V up next.
[Q4]
[Commercial Break]
C.M. Punk is on Smackdown this Friday.
4 -- BIG DADDY V (w/Matt Striker) vs. KANE -- Extreme Rules match
Daddy knocked Kane to the floor early on and Striker retrieved a Kendo stick, but Kane stole it and whipped Daddy across the knee. Back in the ring, Daddy dropped Kane with a slam before standing on Kane's chest against the ropes. They moved to the floor where Daddy slammed various objects across Kane's back. Back in the ring, Daddy bumped Kane off the apron into the guardrail. They went back to the floor where Daddy landed a huge chop to the chest. Striker pulled out a table and slid it into the ring. Daddy set it up in the corner and Daddy slowly charged Kane for a big sandwich splash through the table, knocking both men down. Daddy made a cover, but for a two count only. Daddy demanded a second table, giving Kane time to make a comeback. Daddy teetered close to the second table, then Kane landed a trashcan shot to the head. He measured Daddy for a chokeslam, but Mark Henry showed up and jumped Kane from behind. Henry and Daddy then landed blows on Kane before Daddy landed a trashcan shot to the head. They teamed up for a huge chokeslam through the table for Daddy's pin and the win.
WINNER: Big Daddy V in 8:00. Hopefully this leads to a babyface partner for Kane (e.g. Sid) showing up to even the odds. No surprise on the finish. Serviceable gimmick match that was better than a straight singles match. (*)
[Q5 -- over-run]
After the match, Henry and Daddy stood over Kane's fallen body and stood tall in the ring. Daddy then checked on a huge cut across his elbow while celebrating. They recapped the finish, then Daddy stood on Kane's chest in certain victory.
