KELLER'S ECW ON SCI-FI REPORT 2/5: Punk vs. Chavo in a Gulf of Mexico match, Kofi wins again Feb 14, 2008 - 5:43:46 AM
KELLER'S ECW ON SCI-FI REPORT
FEB. 5, 2008
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEX.
-After the ECW opening, Joey Styles and Tazz introduced the show was C.M. Punk made his way to the ring. Punk said he wasn't invited to the party last week, so he crashed it. He laughed at a clip of his hitting Chavo with a guitar last week after dressing up as a mariachi band member. He said he is invoking his rematch clause this week.
Chavo walked out wearing the ECW Title belt. He blamed him for ruining his party disguised as a crazy mariachi guy. Punk interrupted and said people are always asking him what C.M. stands for, and Cray Mariachi may work. Chavo did a sarcastic laugh and then tried to say his title rematch wouldn't be for two weeks at No Way Out. For a guy who's "straight edge," Punk often looks like he hasn't slept more than four hours a night for a week. Chavo said Punk embarrassed him last week, so he's going to embarrass him this week. He threw to Armando Estrada to explain on the big screen. Armando was standing outside of the arena near the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. He said he's going to make history by having the first wrestling match with extreme rules where the only way to win is to throw your opponent "into the cesspool of water otherwise known as the Gulf of Mexico." Chavo said he's a warrior and he's going to leave him drowning his own tears at No Way Out, but tonight he's just going to leave him drowning. Well, that's a creative match. Styles and Tazz couldn't believe it.
-A Raw preview aired pushing John Cena's return to singles action.

1 -- VICTORIA & LAYLA vs. KELLY KELLY & MICHELLE MCCOOL
Kelly threw a lousy looking handspring elbow into the corner early in the match. Victoria finished Kelly with a Widow's Peak a minute later as McCool and Layla brawled at ringside.
WINNER: Layla & Victoria in 3:00.
STAR RATING: 1/4*
-Styles and Tazz were shown on camera plugging a Kane vs. Shelton Benjmain rematch on Smackdown later in the week, plus this show's main event between Chavo and Punk.
[Commercial Break]
-A video aired hyping WrestleMania.
2 -- TOMMY DREAMER vs. JOHN MORRISON (w/The Miz)
Dreamer avoided a Morrison twisting moonsault and took control a minute into the match. He fended of an interference attempt from Miz. When Miz tried to enter the ring again, Colin Delaney tried to stop him. Miz kicked him into the security wall. Dreamer then slidekicked Miz, but that left an opening for Morrison to give Dreamer a corkscrew neckbreaker for the win.
WINNER: Morrison in 3:00.
STAR RATING: 1/4*
-Styles threw to his sit-down interview with Stevie Richards, who has been sidelined for several months with an injury. He said Richards gets emotional.
-Styles asked about Richards's original neck surgery. They showed a clip from May 1997 in Buffalo, N.Y. wit Richards taking a guard rail shot to the back of his neck. He said after surgery through his throat to get to his neck, he ended up with paralysis of his vocal choard. He said he got his first vocal cord implant at that point. Styles asked how many surgeries he's had to date. Richards had to think for a minute. He said nine, five of which were between October and December of 2007. Styles asked why he still wants to compete after all he's been through. Richards laughed and got choked up. He said he loves competing and being in that ring. He said he wants to show everybody he can compete with any WWE superstar. He said he's read to return.
-Styles again plugged the Gulf of Mexico match.
[Commercial Break]
3 -- KOFI KINGSTON vs. JAMES CURTIS
Styles raved about Kingston's armdrag. Tazz said his unorthodox style will make him successful in the future. Styles said it could make Kofi hard to scout in the future. Kofi threw some punches and chops, then leapfrogged and hit a leaping back elbow. He then signalled for his finisher and leaped to the top rope and flipped down, but then got kneed. However, he immediately hit his 360 degree round kick for the win.
WINNER: Kingston in 3:00.
STAR RATING: 3/4* -- Another nice squash showing for Kofi. A good, old-style way to introduce a new wrestler and build anticipation for him facing someone with name value higher on the card.
-Styles and Tazz hyped the No Way Out line-up.

4 -- C.M. PUNK vs. CHAVO GUERRERO - Gulf of Mexico Match
They dressed in jeans and black t-shirts and street shoes. They started in the ring, but within a minute were making their way through the crowd. After giving the fans a few minutes of brawling, they headed out of the arena toward the water. They brawled into the street where a car screeched on its brakes and honked. Punk threw Chavo onto the windshield of the car. There was no announcing at this point. They cut to a break.
[Commercial Break]
Punk lifted Chavo and threw him onto the hood of another car. They broke the windshield. Ironically, the hood had a plug for an auto glass repair shop and a phone number (seriously). They brawled near the edge of the water as the camera mic picked up the wind. Chavo began shouting about whether Punk really wanted a rematch. Chavo set up a suplex into the water. Punk blocked it. Then he lifted Chavo and gave him a GTS, sending Chavo into the water. The ring announcer announced Punk as the winner.
WINNER: Punk in 10:00.
STAR RATING: **1/4 -- That was different and about as well done as you could expect considering they couldn't really take any bumps outdoors on the cement.
