KELLER'S ECW ON SCI-FI REPORT 1/29: Chavo celebrates title win, Shelton rematch against Kane, Colin Delaney Feb 14, 2008 - 5:35:25 AM
-The show opened with a video of Chavo Guerrero saying that in 2008, he wants to become champion again. Clips aired of C.M. Punk losing the title last week to Chavo thanks to interference from Edge.
-After the ECW open, Joey Styles and Tazz introduced the show. They plugged Chavo's big title celebration would take place later.
1 - KANE vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN
Shelton jump-started the match, but Kane flattened him with a clothesline. Shelton came back with a boot. Kane tossed him over the top rope. Shelton skinned the cat, but as soon as he re-entered, Kane clotheslined him over the top to the floor. When Kane climbed to the top rope, Shelton leaped to the top rope and suplexed him to the mat. They replayed it in slo-mo. Impressive move from Shelton as always. Shelton grounded Kane for a minute, but Kane came back with a strong powerslam for a near fall. Kane followed up with a flying clothesline. Shelton showed life with a jump spin wheel kick to KO Kane. He rolled to the apron and climbed to the top. Kane got up and met him up there with a chokeslam attempt. Shelton leaped off the top rope and yanked Kane across it throat-first. Kane fired right back with a big boot. Once Shelton regained his footing at ringside, rather than return to the ring, he retreated until he was counted out.
WINNER: Kane via countout in 8:00.
STAR RATING: *1/2 -- Good short TV match. Not the best finish, but better than jobbing out Shelton.
-The showed Kelly Kelly getting ready to head to the ring.
[Commercial Break]
2 -- KELLY KELLY vs. VICTORIA
Styles was critical of Victoria whipping Kelly around by her hair, saying that won't help her win the match. Victoria ended it with a Widow's Peak. Lena Yada and Layla cheered on Victoria at ringside, then celebrated with her in the ring afterward.
WINNER: Victoria in 2:00.
-They showed an increasingly bandaged Colin Delaney backstage. Styles said it looks like he's held together with athletic tape.
[Commercial Break]
-A commercial recap aired of the finish of the 30-man Rumble plugging the encore on PPV. Styles then plugged No Way Out's John Cena vs. Randy Orton match
-Tazz interviewed Colin mid-ring. Tazz said he wanted to show a video recap of the beatings he's taken. Colin shook his head no. Tazz said they need to inform the fans who may not have seen him taking the beatings understand why he looks like he does now. Tazz told Colin he had good news - he wouldn't have to face those men again this week. Tazz said he would have to wrestle a two-on-one handicapped match against the tag team champions. Styles wondered aloud, "How much more can this young man endure?" Tazz seemed nonchalant about informing Colin of his match rather than outraged as the injustice of his circumstances.
3 -- THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON vs. COLIN DELANEY
Styles gave Delaney credit for continuing to come to the ring each week to try to fulfill his dream of being a WWE superstar. Miz and Morrison double-teamed him from the start. Miz missed a dive at Colin when Colin collapsed. It was an awkward spot. Miz beat on Delaney at ringside. Morrison gave him a slidekick. Back in the ring, Miz went for the cover, then lifted Delaney's shoulder to dish out more punishment. Tazz called Delaney a crash test dummy for the tag champions. The beating continued after the mach until Tommy Dreamer made the save. Trainers came out to check on Delaney afterward.
WINNERS: Miz & Morrison in 3:00.
[Commercial Break]
4 -- C.M. PUNK vs. ELIJAH BURKE
After some early back and forth action, Burke grounded Punk and held him down with a chinlock and body sissors. Punk eventually escaped and hit Burke with a running knee and then a GTS out of nowhere for the win.
WINNER: Punk in 4:00.
STAR RATING: 3/4* -- Short, but fine. Pretty pointless. Punk lost the title, and this week there's no follow-up promo from Punk? That would have been more fitting than a needless quick win over Burke.
-Styles plugged the Chavo title win celebration. At least they're having the new champ celebrate.
[Commercial Break]
5 -- KOFI KINGSTON vs. ROB EKOS
Kofi came out looking excited and happy to be there, dancing his way to the WWE for the second time on TV. Styles said he's a "good-natured, happy go lucky guy" until the bell rings. Nobody's smiled as much as Kofi since Rocky Maivia debuted in WWE. Tazz said he likes Kofi's style, like nothing else in WWE. He got a good mix of Booker T and Norman Smiley. His high dropkick and 360 degree roundkick ended the match.
WINNER: Kingston in 2:00.
STAR RATING: 1/2* -- Kofi has something. Not where it'll end up, but he's a good new act to feature.
-They showed the mariachi band warming up backstage for Chavo's title win celebration.
[Commercial Break]
-The mariachi band played in the ring to boos from the fans. Those damn musicians. Armando Estrada introduced Chavo. He said due to a tragic accident, Vickie would not be there. He said neither would Edge, who is by her side, but they did send along a pre-recorded video message. What did fans think when they came out later for the Smackdown taping. Some kids view of reality was surely shattered. The went to the big screen with Edge congratulating Chavo for making Vickie's dreams come true and bringing them together as a family of champions. He introduced a highlight video of Chavo which, oddly, included Bobby Heenan on commentary talking about the Guerrero family, but he was unidentified. Chavo thanked Edge for the video message. He told Rey Mysterio that Edge would get him for what he did to Vickie. He then addressed the fans by saying, "I told you so, but you didn't want to listen." He said he told them Punk is not the future of the business and is nothing but a stepping stone for him. The celebration was amped up with the band playing and balloons falling from the rafters. Chavo, though, found himself KO'd by a band member who removed his disguise to reveal Punk. He held the ECW Title belt in the air, then set it on Chavo and patted it. Chavo just isn't a top heel personality-wise, even on ECW.
