One up. One down. And a Boogeyman squash in the middle. We'll pretend like that never happened and simply move on with our lives after witnessing a gross display from Boogeyman that I certainly didn't care to experience again. What, you think I'm talking about the worms? No, the in-ring wrestling. Yeesh.
The opening tag match was stupendous. Miz & Morrison are just worlds above any other tag team in WWE right now. For that matter, any other tag team in wrestling. That's not saying a whole lot because of the state of tag wrestling, but they just have such great chemistry working together. On the other hand, Travis & Badre from the East Coast Audio department made the point about Miz & Morrison needing 13 minutes to take care of a jobber tag team from Smackdown, which I thought of in the back of my head, but I was willing to forgive that due to having 13 minutes of great tag wrestling. Heck, if they would have dragged out 13 minutes with Patterson & Brisco and still made it entertaining, I would have been all for it.
As for the main event, snooze fest city, but it had an intriguing finish with Finlay biting the bullet for Hornswoggle yet again. Finlay belongs on Smackdown, I believe. ECW, in its brief one-hour format, needs more athleticism like Miz & Morrison and Evan Bourne when he's healthy.

This was a decent ECW. The opening segment was OK. It felt a bit random, but there was nothing bad about it. There was nothing good about it either. The show got better with Funaki & Yang vs. Miz & Morrison. I was surprised to see the match go two segments, but I enjoyed it. It had plenty of athleticism and good action. The ending sequence was particularly strong. I also enjoyed the backstage scene hinting at some tension between Mark Henry and Tony Atlas. Time will tell if this leads to a babyface turn for Atlas and how the fans will respond to him, but the first step in the possible process was well done. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker showed why they deserved the Slammy for Announcer of the Year. They had a typically good night. Striker’s line about worms tasting like cold spaghetti and dirt was one of the best lines from an announcer all year long.
The negatives on the show were the Slammy recap videos. Raw was just the night before, and nobody watches ECW who doesn’t also watch Raw. We never need Raw recaps on ECW. I also wasn’t thrilled with the lack of t.v. time for the ECW Champion Matt Hardy. His promo about Vladimir Kozlov was delivered well, but it was like 10 seconds long, and that was his only appearance. I also am not happy to see the Boogeyman back in action. Judging from the dead silence from the live crowd, I have to assume I am not alone in that feeling. The main event was solid, but not particularly good. All that adds up to a decent episode.

An alright show that forwarded some storylines and also featured some solid in-ring action (well, from one match, but still..). No surprise to see Tommy Dreamer get jobbed in his stomping grounds. WWE obviously feels that gets the heels more over in that town so they come across like big heels on TV. WWE liked it so much they did it with two wrestlers, Vladimir Kozlov and Jack Swagger. Is there any reason why Kozlov and Hardy's match at the PPV is non-title (the only thing I can think of is that technically, Kozlov isn't on ECW)?
The tag match was pretty dang good, and I'd like to see Yang and Funaki team up regularly. They don't have any potential as singles wrestlers (WWE's fault, not necessarily theirs), so why not keep the team together? They can add some much needed athleticism to a Smackdown show that usually features one or two 15-minute match where most if it is spent working on a body part. Not that that's bad, but Funaki and Yang would offer something different. Unfortunately, "different" also seems to be a bad word in WWE at times.
Aside from the clothesline that made Boogeyman look like he was in the first day of wrestling school, his squash was relatively impressive. I know that's a sin to say in Boogey matches. The crowd silence could be a good thing, in that they don't know what to make of him. The main event was OK, although I'm not looking forward to Mark Henry vs. Finlay live on Sunday. Though I will be able to tolerate it simply because I'll be able to hear Henry's theme song live. And I REALLY hope they don't break Henry and Tony Atlas up.
