Can I nominate Alex Shelley for full-time color-commentator? Not only is he genuinely funny, but he quadruples the "cool" quotient on the show (or more accurately, the announce team). In other news, Styles vs. Sabin was a very hot match, as you'd expect between the two. Probably the highlight of the show. As for a lowlight, Joe's tattoo looks absurd enough when he's in his ring gear....when he's dressed normally, it just looks stupid. Daniels' X-Division rah-rah promo was a bit too much like Sting's to Styles a week or two ago.

I'd call Williams over Suicide an upset, but I don't think it hurt Suicide since they focused on his feud with Dinero. The Knockouts tag match that propelled Tara and Hemme into the next round wasn't bad. I hope they have something in mind in the singles division for Hamada. The fact that Kurt Angle can't tell that Morgan is working him when everyone else knows it for a fact damages the champ's credibility quite a bit.

Homicide vs. Hernandez was only about half as intriguing as it could've been. While I didn't buy Doug Williams getting into the main event, he certainly didn't hurt his stock with the performance he turned in against Styles in another solid match. Giving AJ time to talk after the match was a nice touch. Eric Young as Homicide was fun and it made sense that neither Sting nor Hernandez would take the loss there, but Young would be made at Hernandez for not joining them.

Why can't TNA finish strong anymore? The first part of this show moved along nicely, with some great in-ring action and a purpose behind each segment. But the ending seemed anticlimactic, which has happened quite often lately. It's almost as if those in charge couldn't figure out how to end the show, so they said "well, let's just throw a huge frickin' brawl out there."

Ending aside, this show did something Impact hasn't done in a long time. Sure it gave us some great match work in the ring, but every single match had a purpose - an ultimate goal for the wrestlers competing. Give us some competitive matches, hype a PPV, and throw in a few backstage segments here and there. That's how a wrestling show should work. And TNA came awfully close this week.

The final outcome was predictable, as Styles and Sting will challenge for the title. But there were some new names participating in the tournament we usually don't see in these situations. I may not have been surprised in the end, but the ride getting there was a lot more enjoyable than most other tournaments could deliver.

Daniel Wilkenfeld, PWTorch.com Contributor (3.5)

I'm actually curious whether people who only read the recap think this show was any good, because on paper it really should have been. Tournaments are fun. Knockout matches are fun. Massive brawls are sometimes fun. Somehow, tonight, everything (outside of Sabin vs. Styles) just fell flat. It didn't help things that the one person who could not possibly win had a shot against AJ Styles (to his credit, Williams really tried to earn it).

Overall though, everything just had a feel of going through the motions. This was exemplified by the show ending brawl. Attack, save, lather, rinse, repeat. There was just nothing there— no emotion. I looked back, and the most interesting thing to happen in the second hour was a Matt Morgan promo. Despite his recent strides, that is still not a good sign. To give some credit where it's due, teasing the Homicide heel turn before the EY-as-Homicide run-in was a clever way trick the audience, even if only for (literally) about three seconds.
