3/18 WWE ECW Hits & Misses: Colin Delaney, Six-Man Tag Mar 23, 2008 - 12:11:42 AM
Colin Delaney: I mentioned in my Smackdown Hits & Misses that MVP has likely been featured in more Hits over the last six months than anyone else on Smackdown. For ECW, I can say the same for Colin Delaney ever since his debut a few months back. He is consistently one of the top reasons to tune into ECW each week. I loved his backstage encounter with Chavo Guerrero in Armando Estrada’s office. His delivery was so good. It was great that Chavo kept asking him questions, then interrupting the answers. He got a good rub from working with Tommy Dreamer in bringing out his inner hardcore self. It will be interesting to see this new direction as he tries to earn a WWE contract. His work in the Main Event was very good as well. It says something about how well his character has been built when the crowd pops for a hip toss. His selling was spot on, particularly when he went limp as Chavo attempted to hit the Three Amigos.
Six Man Tag: Miz & Morrison and Benjamin vs. Jesse & Festus and Punk was a fun six man tag match. It went about 12 minutes which was a nice length. The crowd is really responding well to Festus’ gimmick. They also were very behind CM Punk. The crowd had good energy during the match which helped. The highlight of the match was when Festus slung Shelton Benjamin out of the ring onto Miz, John Morrison and Punk. That was a great spot and another testament to the great athleticism of Benjamin. This was fairly typical for WWE tag matches, but everyone worked hard to make it fun to watch.
ECW MISSES
None: There really isn’t anything to complain about on ECW this week. It wasn’t a great show, but it was solid. Nothing stood out as being bad. Kane vs. Elijah Burke was decent, as was Kofi Kingston vs. James Curtis (who seems to be ECW’s version of Duane Gill and Barry Hardy from the Superstars era). It was good to see this week’s Hall of Fame inductee announced on ECW which helped give the show an important feel. I would like to see less hype for Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather, but what else are they going to hype? Besides, the Big Show video was one we hadn’t seen before and it was pretty good. Nothing really stands out on this show as can’t miss, other than Delaney. Even the six man tag mentioned above wasn’t can’t miss t.v. But, there wasn’t anything that made me want to change the channel which is something.
