4/15 ECW Hits & Misses: Undertaker teams with Kane, The Mike Adamle Show, & more! Apr 16, 2008 - 1:48:05 AM
The continuing saga of Colin Delaney vs. Armando Estrada: Colin Delaney has clearly been the highlight of ECW, and boy, thank God for him tonight, as I would have had to write an all misses column otherwise. The dynamic with Armando is a lot of fun, and I'm intrigued with where they go with it. Tommy Dreamer as Colin's mentor has played his role well. Random fantasy booking idea: how about having Armando gain a grudging respect for him and agree to manage Colin? Wherever they go with it, should be fun to watch.
ECW Misses
Mike Adamle taking over as head ECW announcer: You knew we were in trouble when he started off with an awful joke about Tazz's sunglasses. "Unos, dos, adios?" Don't try to fool me by adding an extra "s" onto "uno" to make your lame line rhyme! And calling the wrong move a figure four leglock?! Absurd, although I guess drinking every time Adamle says something absurd could be an excellent drinking game. Although, you'd probably get alcohol poisoning, so maybe not. Still, good for Joey Styles getting to head up WWE.com, and I'm curious what he'll be doing there. It's also interesting in that Michael Cole was previously heading up WWE.com, and I'm curious what else he's doing now and what led to him leaving his responsibilities with WWE.com.
Kane's promo: Chavo's "minions?" Who talks like that? (Other than Dr. Doom?) His "Make that... the Brothers of Destruction!" was quite cheesy. He's not exactly the most interesting champion ever, and seems out of place with the young up and comers who've been the focus of ECW lately.
The main event: A pretty mediocre main event, and Morrison and Miz didn't get enough offense to really move up much from this. It hurt the tag division, and Undertaker and Kane didn't gain anything either. I guess we'll see if it gave ECW a ratings bump or not, but I'm doubting it did too much for them.
Random opening eight man tag: Why is this match happening? There was just no story to this match. The big tag matches tend to work because you get to see the big stars all hit their finishers, but that doesn't work when you have a match with no stars. Kofi was good when he came in for the hot tag, but a big thumbs up overall. The fact that the Money In The Bank winner was involved in this is absurd.
Diva Danceoff: Can they at least try to make this seem like a little less of a work? Why is Lena Yada employed? Kelly Kelly is so ridiculously awkward, and moves like a boy. Layla not winning this is criminal, and makes wrestling look faker than any blown spots.
