ECW HITS

None: This was a bad episode of ECW. That isn't to say that everything was bad. There were some decent moments, but no really good ones. A few moments came close to being Hits. The first was that the scheduled Ricky Ortiz vs. The Boogeyman match didn't actually occur. Hopefully this is a sign that WWE is turning Ortiz heel. Finlay vs. Paul Burchill was ok. So was Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer. Jack Swagger did his best with the material given to him, which isn't saying much. It was just not a good show.

ECW MISSES

Too Many Videos: Very early into the show, Teddy Long introduced a video of highlights from The Royal Rumble. It was the set up for the theme of the night, which was videos of stuff that we saw on Raw the night before. In fact, it was the first of four such videos. The others were the WrestleMania video, the "12 Rounds" trailer, and the WrestleMania Moment focusing on WrestleMania 21. Throw in a package on what happened on Raw, and you get five videos of non-ECW material in one show.

Only Two Matches: Two matches in one hour isn't enough. Both matches went about 5 minutes which is fine, but it would have been nice to have at least one more 5 minute match. Now, Ortiz vs. Boogeyman wasn't what I wanted to see. However, there were so many videos, that something (or multiple things) could have been cut to give another match. What happened to The Miz & John Morrison? They are technically members of ECW's roster. Miz & Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme could have happened on ECW, since it is Champs' show. They could have insisted that the Title match happen on their home turf. That could have been announced on Raw to hype ECW. That could have been the main event (it was only 4 minutes, so they would have just had to cut out a few of the videos that we had all seen already).

Too Much Happening: Despite only two matches, there was still way too much happening on a one hour show. I keep making WWE - TNA comparisons lately as Raw has had an Impact feel. This was definitely a one hour Impact feel. It staggers the mind to think about how much content was crammed into this show, with little of it really meaning anything which is the main problem. There were the five videos mentioned above. There was a non-match. There were several very short scenes in the back as Jack Swagger looked for his Title belt. So much occurred, yet I don't feel like much was accomplished.

Treatment of Swagger: As opposed to TNA when Championship belts have been stolen and Jim Cornette has done nothing to try to get them returned, it was good to see Tiffany and then Teddy Long attempt to help Jack Swagger get his missing ECW Championship belt back. However, this didn't exactly make Swagger look like a strong Champion so early in his Title run. Let's not forget that Swagger beat Matt Hardy relatively clean for the Title and defended it in a clean win over Hardy at the PPV. This is not a weasely, cheat to win heel Champ. He is a legit wrestler who is legit undefeated (at least in singles matches on ECW). Swagger played his role well, but he was scripted to back down from the #2 heel on ECW, Mark Henry. He also ended the night knocked out on his back. Swagger himself said it best when he said, "this is lame." WWE should be keeping him strong, while making the fans want to see Finlay beat him for the Title. I'm not sure either was really accomplished this week.
