PARKS BLOG: Breaking down the Money In The Bank Contenders: Who Has A Shot?

By Greg Parks, Torch specialist

PWTorch VIP members have first-look access to all of Torch specialist Greg Parks's latest blogs in the newly upgraded VIP Forum. His blogs are published first in the PWTorch VIP Forum, and Parks interacts with other VIP members and Torch staff and contributors in the blog comments area afterward. Some of Parks's blog entries will be exclusive to the VIP Forum.

Almost two weeks out from WrestleMania, there's no clear pick to win the Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match. Taking a look at each participant's chances:

Finlay: The crusty veteran has become a good hand in the ring to work with younger wrestlers on the ECW brand. He had a couple shots at the ECW Title last year, but that's it. Considering it's doubtful the winner of this match will go after that title, and on any other brand Finlay is no more than an upper mid-carder, I don't see him getting the shot. This match should, and has in the past, be a showcase for a younger, up-and-coming star to win and intermingle in the main event scene.

Mark Henry: In my opinion, Henry has become quite entertaining in the past year or so and has become much easier to watch in the ring. He is a former ECW Champion, but his time at the top of the ECW brand seems to have passed. He's a guy they can put in that spot if injuries occur and they need to plug someone with credibility in. He's a possible dark-horse, but I think it'd be a stretch to see him winning.

Kofi Kingston: Too soon for this youngster. WWE has a tendency to pull back on the pushes of younger guys and when they needed a spot in the Elimination Chamber for Edge, it was Kofi they had him attack. Of course, that would make sense for Kofi to win and go after Edge's title. But I'm thinking the main reason WWE put Kofi in here was not for him to win, but because his flying style will add excitement to the match.

Shelton Benjamin: It wouldn't be a Money-in-the-Bank match without Shelton Benjamin. If WWE hasn't seen him as a main eventer after all these years, I can't imagine why they'd start now.

Kane: He's got tenure, and with nowhere else to fit him on the WM card, WWE probably wanted to get him that payday, so they stuck him in here. Kane is a fine utility player and like Henry, can be elevated to the main event for the short term. But his character has been so all-over-the-place, I don't know how they'd fit him in with the new soap opera storytelling WWE seems to be leaning toward.

C.M. Punk: It certainly would be unique to have him win in back-to-back years. He's got a unique style, look, and gimmick and did OK when he won the title last year, but the writing team didn't seem to totally trust him and get behind him 100%. They could try it again here, but I think they'd rather keep him in the IC Title picture for the near future to ensure that belt has some legs.

Christian>: If it wasn't for Vince McMahon's total and utter indifference toward Christian, I would think he'd have to be the favorite. But after reading that Vince had to be convinced to include Christian in the match, I don't see him as a viable winner.

MVP: Which leads me to my pick to win, Montel Vontavious Porter. He's been buried long enough as punishment for his backstage incident(s) and I think it's time to give him the ball. WWE clearly had faith in him as a heel and he was one of the higher-pushed young guys, and WWE could start that back up once again here, only with MVP as a face. Still, there is no clear-cut winner, which should make this match really fun to watch.
