EAST COAST AUDIO VIP FORUM BLOG
By Travis Bryant, East Coast Audio host

Oh boy, just what I didn't want this blog to turn into - an ROH suck-up fest! Two weeks in a row Ring of Honor wins my prestigious Match of the Week award. This week, it's Nigel McGuinness vs. Jay Briscoe from the HDNet TV show on Saturday.

A few blogs back, I mentioned that with the addition of ROH TV, things around these blog parts were going to get pretty one-sided real quick as far as quality wrestling on a national basis goes. May I add, ROH has hardly hit their stride yet. We haven't seen half of what makes the company so special yet. With a deep talent roster, a sports-like feel, and consistently clean finishes, I believe this blog may turn into what I feared most!

Now, on to McGuinness and Briscoe. Nigel is arguably the best worker in the industry today, and Jay is highly regarded as one half of the best tag team today. In this 13-minute main event match, these two delivered a solid opening five minutes of classic wrestling and counter-wrestling. Later in the contest, a bit of psychology took over as each grappler worked on the others arm. This was a hard-fought, hard-hitting match which saw both men kick out of some impressive offense. The finish came when Nigel countered a Jay Drilla and hit Briscoe with his jawbreaker lariat for the clean win.

Runner-up: The Shawn Micheals tribute to The Undertaker. Many might ask "if I'm going to include a non-wrestling segment in my MOTW blog for this week, why not the segment from Raw which saw Orton handcuff Triple H and attack Stephanie McMahon?" Granted that was a great, very intense piece of television, but the creativity behind HBK mocking Undertaker's deadman, darkside gimmick by turning it completely inside out - including a band of pure white druids and angelic choir - was a stroke of creative brilliance!

Second runner up: The team captain's 20-man six sides of steel gauntlet match (whew!) from this week's TNA Impact. After only five weeks of doing this Match of the Week blog, TNA finally finds its way onto the winner's podium. In all its gimmicked glory, this match was very fun to watch.

Besides Kurt Angle's rapid fire eliminations and Hernandez's brutally short stay in the match, this held up as a solid main event, even if they did kill the steel cage gimmick two weeks before an all-steel cage PPV! What else would you expect from TNA though?!
