ECW HITS

Hurricane vs. Burchill: Matt Striker might be enjoying the Hurricane's return more than anyone else. He might be enjoying it a bit too much with the constant references to comic books. I'm not ashamed to admit to understanding the references, but it got a bit tiresome after awhile. However, that is a minor complaint as Hurricane and Paul Burchill put on another good match. In fact, of their three matches I would put this at the top of the list. It went 12 minutes and was enjoyable to watch. Burchill has definitely been improving in the ring. Hurricane has looked better each week as he continues to shake off the ring rust. There was one spot that I didn't like as Hurricane put himself into an awkward position to let Burchill powerslam him from the top rope. That was a very impressive move for Burchill to do, but what was Hurricane going for? That is not a typical position for an offensive move, and certainly no move that Hurricane ever does. If he had come back and tried successfully to do a move from that position later in the match it would have been better. I don't want to focus too much on that spot as it was a good match, but sometimes little things like that keep matches from being better than just good.

Jackson & Kozlov vs. Dreamer & Christian: After a good opening match, a decent tag match and a strong squash for Zack Ryder, the solid to good in ring action for ECW continued with the good tag team main event. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov were fun to watch in their recent squash as they casually tagged in and out. Here they were in a competitive match and delivered well. William Regal enhanced the match at ringside with his great reactions to what was happening in the ring. It was nice to see Tommy Dreamer back in the main event after being the ECW Champion not that long ago. Christian was his usual good self in the match. This match accomplished multiple goals. It was fun to watch. It continued to set up the Ruthless Roundtable as a force to be reckoned with in ECW. It hyped Christian vs. Regal for Breaking Point. And with what happened afterwards with Regal kicking Christian as he tried to save Dreamer, it cast Christian's Title as being in jeopardy at the PPV. Well done.

ECW MISSES

Benjamin (Heel or Face?): This ordeal of Shelton Benjamin's nebulous character is starting to become annoying. Each week he seems to be switching back and forth between being a heel and a face. Last week, he wrestled as a babyface against the clear heel Zack Ryder. This week he was teaming up with the clear heel Shaemus against the clear faces Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust. So at the start of the match, we were left asking why an apparent babyface Benjamin was teaming with a heel again? It makes no sense. Shaemus then attacked him, making him a babyface again? I think. He got a pretty good reaction for fighting back, but without a strong character, how are we supposed to get behind him?

Wasting Tatsu: After getting popular and connecting with the fans quickly after his silly ECW debut a few months ago, Yoshi Tatsu hasn't been well utilized on ECW. He isn't on often. He hasn't had much in ring time lately to show off his unique style and good wrestling ability. This week he was in a tag match that was just a set up for his opponents to fight afterwards. His presence wasn't important at all. He could have been anybody in that spot. The same could be said for his partner Goldust whose follow up to his great feud ending match against Shaemus last week was an afterthought this week.
