ECW Reax #1: "I feel sorry for putting my brain through such mindless crap." Sep 12, 2007 - 3:33:44 PM
A.A. Norman of Tulsa, Okla. (5.0): Best Match: Dreamer vs. Miz. Worst Match: Striker vs. Nunzio. Jim Ross recently explained why having an "Extreme Rules" match each week would make it less special and cause more injuries. Isn't being "extreme" what makes ECW special, and how risky are injuries in short matches filling an hour-long show? The C.M. Punk shirt intro took too long, Elijah Burke's "you were recruited to my New Breed" speech would have made more sense if he didn't seem to be ignoring the fact that he's been teaming with Kevin Thorn, who quit his New Breed about the same time Punk did. I can't stand to watch Boogeyman and his worms, it is too gross, and just as bad as forming spit from his mouth. Thank goodness they gave him the week off. Now if only they could get Viscera to wear a shirt, I might give this show a higher ranking. Unfortunately, left little to be desired, and I'm definitely turning the show off next week when Gross Daddy V and the worm man take the ring.
Donnie of New York (2.0): Best match: Main Event. Worst match: Striker vs. Nunzio... What can I say about this show except that I feel sorry for putting my brain through such mindless crap. I mean the show got off to a hot start with Armando Estrada (who is growing on me as ECW General Manager), C.M. Punk, and Elijah Burke. I think Elijah is the right choice, as he and C.M. Punk seem to have pretty good chemistry. But with that said, the ECW Originals deserve better and deserve to get pushed. Besides the obvious of C.M. Punk's reaction, Tommy Dreamer, Balls Mahoney, and Nunzio got the loudest pops of the night. If WWE didn't know already, we would rather see the ECW Originals than some fired school teacher that got about ten seconds of fame, a big fat slob who has been push hard and failed miserably seemingly hundreds of times, and a reality television "star." My brother who actually liked the new ECW watched tonight's show with me and actually left the room in disgust after the Nunzio match. When will the WWE give us something we actually want to see? TNA going to two hours couldn't come any quicker.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Opening segment; main event Worst: everything else. The stuff in the middle of the show wasn't horrible; it did make for a less than last week episode of ECW. For the time being, Punk and Estrada teed off on each other. Punk comes across as a fairly intelligent face who sees through much of the crap Estrada tried to bring on. (A heel version of this could work well as Punk would just be more jaded.) Sure, it was a cheap plug for Punk merchandise, but the shirt became a tool Punk used to illustrate that while he is a champ he doesn't see the world through rose colored glasses. Curious thing was no explanation for Morrison's no-show. The smarts know, but for the regular fans who don't tune in so closely, Morrison wasn't put out of commission or given a suspension of a different kind (Kennedy) - he just disappeared. Miz-Dreamer added more to the Balls-Kelly story by her sympathy for Dreamer. It wasn't the same as how she feels for Mahoney, which was made clear. I will also take it duly noted that it is also a statement that Miz isn't the chick magnet he claims to be as a least one of the women is coming around to what I said in a reax about this feud a month ago: "Reality kicks in and Miz isn't so cool after all." Striker got a too-quick win over Nunzio, though it was meant to have BDV attack and Boogeyman do his promo on the Tron. The match is likely going to be awful, but what can you do with an anorexic roster? Mike Knox is back (YAY!), though his first match back left some to be desired. I know he was elsewhere so it isn't ring rust that I saw - call it TV Rust, I guess. Give him time, I think he'll be okay. And props for putting trivia (New Breed, Knox being Kelly's ex) into the mix, especially in Knox's case as he won't need a total reset for TV fans. For what little ECW has to work with, the arena crowd looks to recognize the earned efforts. Obviously, ECW can't do much with what it doesn't have.
PWTORCH FORMAT CONVENTIONS
For the sake of clarity to our readers (and to save us time editing these same things over and over), please follow these simple conventions when writing Torch Reax:
-Wrestlers teaming together should be connected with "&" symbol (e.g. Hunter & Michaels, Devon & Ray) or with a "/" (e.g. Animal/Hawk, Harris/Storm), but not dashes and not the word "and."
-To designate wrestlers who are fighting, feuding, or wrestling each other, put a dash (-) between them (e.g. Michaels-McMahon, Jarrett-Sting, Hogan-Andre) or use "vs."
-The word versus should always be abbreviated this way: "vs." with a period afterward (not "v." or "v/s" or "VS" or "VS." or any other way).
-Plus, it's just our policy, but we don't indulge wresting promotions' strange spelling fetishes where they spell Raw, Smackdown, Heat, Impact, etc. with the haphazard capitalization of various leTTeRz. It seems very "junior high," so no RAW (it's Raw), no iMPACT (it's Impact), etc.
-Please try to avoid overuse of dot-dot-dots. If you have a thought that's "trailing off," you can use for effect, but otherwise, just use periods, commas, and our personal favorite, semicolons if you dare. We have always had a policy of only one exclamation point and no ALL CAPS. Let your words convey the meaning of your point. There's many to choose from out there.
