ROH Driven Reax #1: "In a perfect world, matches like this would be seen in front of 20,000 people" Sep 29, 2007 - 6:41:12 AM
Torch VIP member Ivan Trembow (9.5): Best Match: Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness. Worst Match: None in particular. The first 90 minutes of this show was not as good as the first 90 minutes of the previous PPV, but the main event was downright amazing and was probably the best pro wrestling match I've seen in 2007. I have been very impressed with Matt Sydal on both of ROH's first two PPV events, but I'm also left wondering why they put him on both PPV shows if he was never under a contract to ROH that would prevent him from going to TNA or WWE, which he has subsequently done. It was nice to see Austin Aries back in ROH and freed from the shackles of TNA's idiotic booking. In addition to the emphasis on the in-ring action, one of the things that stands out the most in differentiating ROH for the better is that the announcers make things so much better by not being screaming idiots like Mike Tenay and Don West.
Ben Kugel of Buffalo,N.Y. (9.0): Best Match: Danielson vs. Nigel. Worst Match: Albright's squash, by default. Now this is what a wrestling show should be. Never a dull moment in this show, and even had me, the jaded wrestling fan that I am outright clapping at my screen for the first time since the Benoit tragedy. The opening six man tag is the perfect way to get your friends that have never seen ROH psyched about the product. It also had one of the sickest bumps I ever seen when Strong back suplex Delirious right on the ring apron, I gasped at that one. Claudio/Sydal had a big hill to climb following the emotional return of Austin Aries, but they did a more than admirable job. Sweeney didn't disappoint either, he is still living up to his reputation of being one of the best talkers in the business today. Whitmer surprised me and put together a pretty entertaining match against Marafujii, and it played into the ongoing storyline very nicely. The Briscoes and Steen/Generico showed me what everyone has been raving about in their string of matches, a perfect mix of brawling and highspots, and another great performance by Steen coaxing Generico into more heelish acts. Morishima's quick squash of Rave was understandable since he was on his way out anyway, and cemented Morishima's reign of dominance. What can be said about Danielson/Nigel that hasn't already been said? The crowd couldn't of said it better. "THIS IS WRESTLING". In a perfect world, matches like this would be seen in front of 20,000 people. Some sick spots (Nigel getting suplexed onto the guardrail), solid technical wrestling, and a brutal finishing sequence put this in the upper echelon of matches this year.
