WWE Smackdown Reax #1: "The Hardy/MVP partership has been the most entertaining story of the year." Nov 18, 2007 - 3:18:05 PM
Adam Crawley of Christiansburg, Va. (9.5): Best match: Matt Hardy/MVP vs. John Morrison/The Miz. Worst match: Hornswoggle-Khali weigh in. This was one of the better episodes of this show I've ever seen, and it was a fantastic sendoff to Survivor Series. The Hardy/MVP partership has been the most entertaining story of the year, and this was an unexpected and great way to end it. The Mysterio-Kennedy match was PPV-quality, with a half-dozen good spots, and an exciting finish. The J.Hardy-Finlay match could have been better, but still was entertaining and served it's purpose of hyping the PPV match. The weigh in was unnecessary, as everyone knows that Khali is much bigger than Hornswoggle. Batista put on a violent display in battering Mark Henry. I haven't ordered a PPV in a couple of years, but this show actually convinced me that I need to order Survivor Series.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (9.0): Best: Kennedy vs. Rey; VIP Lounge Worst: women's tag; Batista vs. Henry It is pretty rare for a show to keep this much focus on a PPV, but Smackdown's eyes never strayed from the task at hand. Every single segment and match had Survivor Series ties (except for Mark Henry's presence, but there may still be something yet), and all served their purpose. Jeff Hardy looked to be in legit pain coming out for the match with Finlay, and he looked to have signalled something about his arm/shoulder during the match (judging by the constant sequence of chinlocks for a time). The Hell In A Cell Highlights make the match important and put emphasis on Undertaker's HIAC. What was missing was highlights of Batista's turn in the Cell as he's not a total novice of that match. Batista-Henry...an anticlimactic squash considering that there was no build and what should have been a feud last year was hampered by Henry's injury just as Batista returned from his own. But some of the seemingly unrelated things could figure into the booking--almost all of it to Smackdown: Edge's return (probably to mess with Kane), Henry wanting his heat back for the squash (potentially costing someone a title or opportunity), and Chavo about due any time to return to TV. The code plays on Smackdown to a glaring error: Did I read "2 days, 24 hours,..."? or did I miss something? With MVP-Hardy, the rivalry turned one more corner as MVP was busted for his tag title motives. The belts are off MVP and Matt Hardy so that their feud can go back to be solely about the U.S. Title, but why put them on ECW's Miz and Morrison? I suppose the idea was to keep with the Survivor Series build, but even Deuce and Domino would have been a better choice (and they suck in the ring in muy opinion). I'm also assuming that Miz and Morrison's misbehaving on ECW commentary either came after their win, or they're playing it cool and not acknowledging the disputes for the casual fans. By night's end, I'm hoping that both Hardy boys were selling their injuries and dealing with legit ones. Matt's didn't look so selling.
