WWE Raw Reax #2: "Jericho has reminded me that I like to see him, but he also that he is a mid-carder." Nov 27, 2007 - 12:22:46 PM
Matt Guerra of Bayonne, N.J.: (6.0) Best Match: Flair vs. Orton. Worst Match: Opening tag match. This show could have been a lot better, but when you do something as bad as have one of your characters go through a wall, you can't get higher then a 6.0 rating. That was pretty low, and I didn't think the WWE writers could go any lower. Carlito, don't worry, you'll be in TNA soon enough. Enough of Jerry Lawler getting over, he's like 60... enough! Jericho has reminded me that I like to see him, but he also has reminded me that he is a mid-carder.
Adam J. Grammas of Westchester, Ill. (4.0): Best: Opening match. Worst: Eight-man tag. It's a shame Jericho's return came a week before Flair's return in Charlotte. The crowd was dead for Y2J. (They seemed pretty dead during Hardy's interview too-isn't he from the Carolina's?) I guess the Flair angle now will be how long can he win. Flair explained why he hadn't been on Raw in months. Um, isn't it because he was drafted to Smackdown? Lawler actually called the eight-man match a great win for "these youngsters." Duggan?? The Kennedy-Michaels feud could be like Austin-Bret if they play it right and let Kennedy jump HBK and get the better of him several times. I can't believe Shawn's letting Kennedy make fun of him losing his smile, but I love it. It's rough seeing Barry Windham, one of the most underrated stars of his time, looking the way he does. The interaction between Jericho and Santino was funny, but it would've been even better if Y2J pulled a Bugs Bunny and said the right name, leaving Santino to say a wrong name. Unfortunately, by the time Flair was heading to his match and Jericho was in the background clapping, he became JAW is Jericho: Just Another Wrestler. The main event wasn't bad but Bret is right - Flair matches have become chopfests.
Bryant Mooney of Stamford, Conn. (5.5): Best Match: Flair vs. Orton and the Flair Segments. Worst Match: Eight-Man Tag Team Match. This episode was a very mixed emotions show for me. Wrestling really took a back seat this week minus two matches with chock full of two minutes matches. The tag team match was a great way to start the show. Triple H and Jeff Hardy were surprisingly good as a tag team. Triple H facing Jeff Hardy at Armageddon is a very good match to me and is now the match I'm most anticipating. Ric Flair's in-ring and backstage segments were the segments of the night. He really had me going when I thought that he was going to retire but then said he will never retire. Orton's part was great, too, with thanking him for potentially ending his career and the stand off was great. What was next really killed my spirit. The eight-man tag team match was very senseless to me. They just threw that match together and was not worth it at all. They should've just focused on Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly which is the drawing point of the whole situation. After that, I see that Big Daddy V and Kane will wrestle again on ECW. Not again! Jeff Hardy's interview was good, too, with Triple H doing his classic "You're stepping into the ring with The Game" promo. Good stuff. Jericho vs. Santino was just to knock the ring rust off. I wasn't expecting much from it but the whole "Me, Want, Title, Match" thing was very funny. I thought that there would be potential in Kennedy vs. Kendrick, but it came to be just another squash. I just wanted to see Kendrick get a little bit more offense before getting squashed. Great post-match promo by Kennedy. The Hornswoggle segment was just stupid, but you couldn't help but laugh when Carlito tried to run through the wall and with Ron Simmons returning to his hilarious ways of just using that one word we all know. I was very dissapointed that Melina vs. Mickie James only got about two minutes of action; not their best match, which was at Backlash earlier this year, but Mickie deserved to be no. 1 contender since she's been on fire lately. Flair vs. Orton was the best match of the night, not just because of the match but the dramatic effect of this being his last match. It was a very good main event with Flair's career living to fight another day and his hometown crowd made it all worthwhile. The stare down with Jericho and Orton was great, too, to close the show. Overall, this week was a major letdown wrestling-wise (minus the opening and main event), but it did have good segments here and there. I'm more excited for Raw's 15th anniversary than anything else right now.
