WWE Raw Reax #3: "This show demonstrated both what is best and worst about Raw." Dec 12, 2007 - 1:53:08 PM
Holly Scofield pf Milford, Conn. (9.0): Best Match: Ladder Match. Worst Match: None. Absolutely stellar Raw from top to bottom. Most entertaining in a long time. Not that every match was a five-star match, but just entertaining stuff. From top to bottom, including the beginning with clips of how Raw began each week over the last 15 years. Great to see RVD. Nicest surprise of the night. Loved how the show ended, too. Now may be an appropriate time to simply say thank you to Vince and all the wrestlers for a great 15 years and for making Mondays bearable - and here's to 15 more!
Matthew Alan Roberts of Lakewood, Ohio (8.0): Best Match: 15 Man Wrestlecrap Gimmick Battle Royal. Worst Match: Hornswoggle vs. Great Khali. After several months of not watching wrestling on television, the combination of a loaded Raw show and a dreadful Monday Night Football game (Atlanta versus New Orleans = Hogan versus Warrior 2) got me to watch Raw this week and, in general, I liked the 15 year anniversary episode of Raw very much. However, this show will not get me back to watching Raw on a regular basis because this show demonstrated both what is best about Raw (the legends and massive McMahon wrestling video library) and what is worst about Raw (basically all their current storylines and wrestlers). I loved the return of the real Divas (Lita and Trish are as hot as ever and damn is Sunny back to being blistering hot), the return of real wrestlers (forget massaging Carlito's ego, get Marty Jannetty and Rob Van Dam contracts and get out of jail free cards), and the awesomely terrible bad gimmicks (seriously, thank you Vince McMahon for bringing back the true legend, Gillberg, because I was worried for a second that that dope Goldberg was coming out of that door). The bad of this show is the same bad that has been stinking up McMahon land for years now (plus that Male Strip Club Bartender who is presently impersonating Chris Jericho), which includes heatless tag teams (see Baldcore Holly), third rate Diva Wanna Be's (see Jillian Hall), World Champion Blandy Boreton (his first title reign worked so well), Great Giant Crappy (how bad do you suck when you can not sell a Hulk Hogan punch to the face), and the artist formerly known as Little Bastard (why is this boring, heatless, untalented, midget literally in every single segment on Raw).
Adam J. Grammas (3.0): Best: Nostalgia. Worst: Not enough nostalgia. Well, in the opening segment, Triple H managed to become the star attraction, despite the presence of stars from the past. But wait, he also was part of the Evolution reunion and a DX reunion. I'm surprised they didn't get Sean Waltman for a DX Army reunion and have Hunter shave and dress like a Connecticut blueblood. I may have misheard, but did Vince say he was with Mae after Moolah's funeral? The woman's body isn't even cold yet and they are referencing her already. I noticed how they stuck Molly Holly in a segment with Mickie - the two "not really hot" divas. (I always thought both were cute myself.) Repo, Anvil, and I.R.S. could have had a battle of the bellies during the battle royal. I don't know what was bigger, Rotundo's belly or the bags under his eyes. Seeing Snow, Blackman, and Pete Gas gave me flashbacks to mid-card hell of the Attitude Era. I can just picture how they got all the guys for the battle royal: "Hi, we want you to come on the show for five minutes. No, you aren't going to get hired." "Sounds great, I'll be there. Excuse me, you want fries with that?" I think Rhodes and Murdoch should turn on their partners and be the next generation of that legendary tag team. And be killer heels in the process. It's a good thing King was there to point out that the conversation between Kane and Lita was awkward. I could never tell from the bad acting. Geez, Jannetty looked worse for wear. If that was a tryout match, I think he needs to go back to the fryer as well. (And that was the main event!) Overall, it was neat to see some of the older guys, but most guys beyond the big names (Hogan, Austin) got little reaction from the crowd. I guess 15 years is too long to have the same fans still watching.
