WWE Armageddon Reax #3: "Jericho seems to be getting over finally. The crowd really wanted to see him beat Orton." Dec 17, 2007 - 5:29:17 PM
Ryan Acheson of Sandwich, Mass. (7.0): Best Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H. Worst Match: Big Daddy V/Mark Henry vs. C.M. Punk/Kane. A decent show, if a little disapointing when looking at the card and what could have been. The end to the Rey-MVP match probably hurt MVP due to the match being one of the shorter matches on the card. C.M. Punk made the three monsters look better than they are, but ended up doing the job for his efforts. Match of the night was definitely Hardy vs. Trips. Good action, and great story telling from both wrestlers. Hunter really conveyed his surprise and admiration for Hardy stepping up to fight him, and Hardy performed his role really well, too. A clean finish where Hardy only just scores the pin gets Hunter out of the match undamaged while putting Hardy well over is good stuff. Michaels and Kennedy did well with their match. Working a hand is pretty novel, and it paid off nicely. Nothing that made you think it deserved to be higher on the card, though. Chris Jericho seems to be getting over finally. The crowd really wanted to see him beat Randy Orton and they were really loud for the Walls of Jericho. Obviously, they wanted to keep the belt on Randy and didn't want to destroy Jericho's credibility, but it does hammer home that putting him right into such a match was a stupid move. Hopefully JBL is in good shape, although I'll miss him on commentary if he walks away from that. I didn't have one problem with the finish to the three-way, though. For one, it's a no DQ match, so you can't exactly say it was cheating, and for two, if Edge was in a no DQ match and didn't try something underhanded, I wouldn't be able to believe it. Really didn't expect him to get the belt right back, though,
Paul Calligan Jr of Birmingham, Ala. (8.5): Best Match: Hardy vs. Triple H. Worst Match: None, except for the flashback I had to Raw with Marty Janetty stinking up my screen. This event was paced much better than normal and was able to intelligently advance storylines in almost each match giving most of these stars a different opponent to focus on between now and the Rumble. Edge makes the most out of his character and continues to shine in and out of the ring. The ending to HBK-Kennedy was booked perfectly, but it would have been wise for the same sequence to have happened resulting in an acceptable HBK loss rather than Kennedy. There is no woman on the active roster that will get close to taking the title from Beth Phoenix. She could possibly have a Hulkamania type run ahead of her; just please, Vince, don't let her wrestle any men. Beth Phoenix vs. Chyna is the money match. Congrats to Jeff Hardy for getting the rub from Triple H that I felt "had" to happen after Triple H exposed the family "secret" on Raw. Triple H's undefeated streak begins Monday night through WM24. Finlay could be a welcome face in the WWE World Title scene if they could limit the foreign object usage and just let Finlay do Finlay. MVP is better than every superstar not currently holding the U.S. Title belt... until otherwise proven. With MVP's verbal and in-ring skills, it's a shame he didn't get the opportunity to work with the Rock, Stone Cold, or Mick Foley, but the day he crosses paths with Triple H, Santino, HBK, or even Y2J will be worth the monthly fee for TiVo. While Rey is still popular, he should use this current trend of losses and surprise us all with a heel turn and a gimmick tweak because the "biggest little man" era is dead and stankin'. By the way, welcome back JBL. Your presence on Raw should really shake things up, which was a nice surprise.
Kamarul Anwar of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (7.0): Best match: Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy. Worst match: That ECW tag team match; or was it Smackdown's? The last good edition of Armageddon was 2002's. Other than that, it's just a simple way for WWE to steal money off our pockets. Luckily, us Malaysians have to pay only around US$4 (RM 20) per PPV. Anyway, back to the show: Triple H proved why he is that damn good tonight. Not only he has the skills, but he knows that it's good business to let Hardy get the win. Match-wise, it was great, too. There was great drama, when Hardy hesitated to throw an open fist at Helmsley, and H slapped the living taste out of Hardy. I was glad that the match ended in a clean finish because I don't think Triple H has anything to lose and it will just give momentum to Hardy. I understand that they can't have clean finishes all the time as it could damage one's credibility when losing fair and square. This PPV has a fair share of clean and questionable finishes. Rey Mysterio has only won twice (three times if you count Survivor Series) at this year's PPVs, but MVP needs to retain the U.S. Championship to resume his feud with Matt Hardy. The in-ring action was great, so I don't think a countout finish spoiled the match. The World Heavyweight Championship match was great, but I don't like WWE's style of Triple Threats; two men wrestle, while the other is in passive state before coming back to replace one of the wrestlers currently in the ring. Other than the C.M. Punk with three stiff refrigerators match, I have nothing to complain about this PPV. We can't be too negative towards WWE and set our expectations too high. If you want clean finish for every match, watch amateur wrestling then. Or tennis.
