WWE No Way Out PPV Reax #2: "This wrestling family still doesn't care a bit about what their fan base wants." Feb 17, 2008 - 11:03:06 PM
Hank Schaller of Muskegon, Mich. - VIP member (7.0): I can't believe how the McMahons just continue to shill for their family and their own pocketbooks. John Cena and especially Jeff Hardy lose and this wrestling family still doesn't care a bit about what their fan base wants. Thank God, Ric Flair didn't lose tonight. I have more than a sneaking suspicion that Vince and his brats decided upon a WrestleMania main event of Triple H vs. Randy Orton a long time ago even though their fans definitely wanted Jeff Hardy in the main event and even half the fans wanted John Cena in the main event. Then to have Chavo Guerrero continue to hold the ECW belt and it's a night of disappointment for more than a few wrestling fans. Meanwhile, the McMahon family just gets richer as Triple H will earn a main event share. And somehow, someway, Vince will put himself on the card to get a share of the proceeds even though he already pockets most of the money. It was a good pay-per-view since you knew they wouldn't let Rey Mysterio win because of his injury. At least the confrontation between Big Show and Floyd Mayweather made up for that disappointment. I truly believe that WrestleMania receipts will be down a lot this year because all of the seeds of fan dissatisfaction that were sown tonight.
Chris Glavin - PWTorch VIP subscriber (9.0): Best Match: Smackdown Elimination Chamber. Worst Match: Edge vs. Rey Mysterio. Coming into this PPV I was uncertain if I was going to order it. Boy am I glad that I did! Truly a phenomenal PPV top to bottom. The opening match was a solid matchup and it was funny to see the crowd turn on C.M. Punk. The Smackdown Elimination Chamber was fantastic thanks to Batista and especially the Undertaker busting his ass. Mr. Kennedy and Ric Flair was a solid match. Kennedy showed a lot of passion and real heel tendencies mocking the hell out of Flair. Edge vs Mysterio was good for what it was Rey gutted it out and should be commended. What followed was a truly wonderful angle that had me popping like I haven't pop in awhile for an angle! Floyd Mayweather played his part better than Tyson ever did showing real emotion. Orton vs. Cena was a very good match as well. Both guys played their part perfectly. The finish made sense it kept heat for both guys. The main event was very good. Umaga showed a lot of fire, HBK bled hard and Y2J was crisp. The two guys who showed the least in this match were Triple H and JBL and ironically it was Triple H that won. It really angers me that the guy who is the most over in the WWE is simply not pushed into the upper echelon. I didn't hear any Triple H chants tonight. I didn't hear any HBK chants. No Y2J. I heard Hardy. I guess when you are providing future generation McMahons you can have your way, no matter how drawn out and boring your act is. I guess I get to listen to eight weeks of drawn out, boring groaning promos about the King of Kings and weekly sledgehammer appearances. It's so original! It's SO WWE!
Mike Omansky (5.0): Best match: Cena-Orton. Worst match: Edge-Misterio. Fairly good PPV, with solid matches, but probably not worth the price tag, and in retrospect not a "must see." Cena vs. Orton was excellent, and the live crowd being into it made it all the better. Mysterio shouldn't have competed in this short match. This ending was telegraphed, as was Flair-Kennedy. The Big Show segment was very strong, although could I have lived without him spitting blood several times for the camera. Cage matches were good. First-rate performances by Umaga, Michaels, Triple H, Hardy, Finlay, and Undertaker. C.M. Punk vs. Chavo was a throwaway - isn't this weekly TV stuff?
